Autodesk has closed an agreement to acquire Shotgun, a company specialized in scalable cloud-based management software for the preparation, review, and administration of assets for the film, television and video game industries.

Shotgun's production management tools are powered by some of the world's leading production studios, and are tightly integrated with many of the most widely used tools in the industry, including Autodesk 3ds Max and Autodesk Maya.

Don Parker, co-founder and CEO of Shotgun, acknowledges that "Shotgun and Autodesk share the vision of an industry-wide production management system based on the cloud. Autodesk's extensive network resources, as well as its global development, will help accelerate the pace of innovation and development of our global platform. Together we will extend our tools deeper into the production process, and develop new solutions that are better supported in the studios of the future."

Since its launch in 2006, thanks to its business tools for managers and visual collaboration for artists and supervisors, Shotgun has more than half a thousand clients, including a series of studios.

Chris Bradshaw, Senior Vice President of Media and Entertainment at Autodesk, has “underlined that the acquisition of Shotgun will accelerate Autodesk's efforts to offer solutions that help our creative clients solve the critical problem of the operation more efficiently through collaboration at a global level, offering better results for productions that are increasingly complex in time and budget, Shotgun brings deep experience as its technology is a leader in the industry of cloud products and production management, so we welcome the team, customers and the community to Autodesk.”

With this operation, Autodesk adds a new company to its portfolio after the operations carried out in recent years to acquire Discreet, Colorfront, Skymatter, Realviz and Softimage.
