Volicon and Nexidia launch a complete solution for closed captioning automation
The collaboration of both companies aims to radically reduce the cost of inserting subtitles, which is already mandatory in many countries.
Volicon y Nexidia have announced in Las Vegas the launch of a joint solution that enables comprehensive automated monitoring of the quality of closed captioning and descriptive video. This solution, in accordance with the latest North American FCC regulations from March of this year, automatically captures content, extracts the subtitle and, determines if the subtitle file matches correctly, identifies any missing or incorrect subtitle segments anywhere in the file, and checks for the presence of descriptive video services (DVS).
The FCC rules define new quality standards for closed captioning that include accuracy, synchronicity, and completeness. These rules apply not only to the transmission of content, but also to video clips that are distributed online. Broadcasters with the largest market shares are required to subtitle at least 50% of their broadcast.
Monitoring the broadcast of subtitles is cost-prohibitive for most broadcasters, and on-site controls are not efficient. The integration of Volicon Observer surveillance and logging technology with Nexidia Comply, which uses advanced patented audio analysis technology, will facilitate scalable and cost-effective monitoring in an automated manner.
Volicon and Nexidia's joint solution continuously captures content, along with critical metadata, so users can time-stamp and view recorded content to determine if captions are correct. Using registration and management data, the solution performs electronic monitoring of subtitles and alerts to possible defects or absences of subtitle data in specific programs. The visual record and captured metadata provide visual and electronic confirmation.
