TVE shoots 'La corona parte', the feature film that will link 'Isabel' and 'Carlos, King Emperor' on the big screen

Spanish Television rolls The broken crown, a feature film co-produced by the public channel and Diagonal TV that will narrate what happened after the death of Isabel la Católica and the times of uncertainty that were experienced due to the power struggle between Fernando el Católico and Felipe el Hermoso.

A great production directed by Jordi Frades, filmed in natural settings and with more than 1,000 extras, which continues the story told in Isabel, which said goodbye in December with great critical and public success after three seasons, and is the starting point of Charles, King Emperor, the new historical series on TVE.

Jordi Frades, director of Isabel, is at the helm of this feature film with a script by José Luis Martín that will delve into what happened after the death of Queen Isabella the Catholic: the struggle for power between Fernando the Catholic and Felipe the Beautiful and how Juana, legitimate heir, is a victim of their manipulations.

In the cast of this film, many of the protagonists of Isabel, who thus resume their roles in the successful Spanish Television fiction: Rodolfo Sancho (Fernando el Católico), Irene Escolar (Juana la Loca), Raúl Mérida (Felipe el Hermoso), Eusebio Poncela (Cardenal Cisneros), Ramón Madaula (Gonzalo Chacón), Jordi Díaz (Andrés de Cabrera), Fernando Guillén Cuervo (Fuensalida) and Úrsula Corberó (Daisy).

In addition, new actors to interpret the plots that opened after the death of the queen of Castile and Aragon, such as José Coronado (Maximiliano de Habsburg), Silvia Alonso, who will play Germana de Foix, new wife of King Ferdinand; Pedro Mari Sánchez, in the role of the Duke of Nájera, one of the members of the Royal Council; Ramón Barea as the Duke of Alba; Fernando Cayo as Veyré; Jacobo Dicenta as Belmonte; or Jesús Noguero in the role of Benavente; inter alia.

The filming

Around 1,000 extras will participate in the filming of The broken crown. The Guadamur castle (Toledo), the church of Santa María (Torrelaguna), the cathedrals of Burgos and Toledo and the Rincón palace (Madrid) will be some of the natural settings where the film's technical team, made up of 100 people, will shoot.

As curious facts about the filming, 100 horses participate in the production of the film and on two of the days, in addition to the usual cameras, drone recording will be used. The image will be taken using a professional camera attached to a drone to obtain an aerial shot. One of these days will take place in the Toledo Cathedral, where this technique will be used to film an aerial sequence inside the temple.

The special effects will include digital inlays, elimination of current elements that undermine historical accuracy, and fake snow, rain, and fire in different scenes of the film.

Special mention for the costumes, especially in three key moments that are narrated in the film and that represent well-known paintings: the entry to Valladolid of Juana and Felipe of the altarpiece of the life of Saint Joseph in Brussels; the meeting between Felipe and Fernando in Remensal from the anonymous oil painting that portrays this moment and Felipe's funeral procession from the painting Juana the crazy by Francisco Pradilla y Ortiz which is in the Prado Museum.
