Blackmagic demonstrates IP video streaming with just two Teranex Mini converters connected over a 10G Ethernet network
A mount that allows B4 lenses to be used with the Ursa Mini camera, new Teranex Mini models with 12G technology, an innovative card that offers 8 independent channels to capture and play back content, the program update for the MultiView device and a new version of the internal software for the Teranex Express converter are some of the new features at IBC.
In the year when everyone in the halls of the RAI Center in Amsterdam is talking about IP video, Blackmagic could not be left out of this new wave by surprising everyone with a demonstration of video transmission using the Internet protocol.
Most Blackmagic SDI 12G products provide the ability to install a fiber optic module to process signals over this connection if necessary. Con este diseño el fabricante se está preparando para lanzar diversos modelos que permitirán utilizar un módulo de datos 10G a fin de ofrecer la posibilidad de transferir imágenes por Internet.
From Blackmagic, they maintain that it is a much more practical solution, since the use of different converters is not required and it is possible to connect the same equipment to systems based on SDI or IP.
During the show Blackmagic is carrying out a demonstration on how to transmit UHD signals over IP between two Teranex Mini prototypes through a 10G fiber optic connection.
It also presents new models in the Teranex Mini line with 12G technology that allow receiving or transmitting SDI signals through four channels. With the aim of being able to connect latest generation UHD equipment to other older devices, the Australian manufacturer has developed the new Teranex Mini 12G-SDI to Quad Link SDI and Quad Link SDI to 12G-SDI models.
The latter can be used for example to connect devices with four SDI channels to the new HyperDeck Studio 12G. In this way, it is possible to record the signal from older UHD equipment on the SSD unit inserted in the recorder.
This option allows you to use only one cable instead of four and the device automatically adjusts to the format of the received signal.
It is much better to use only two BNC cables to connect the input and output of the device instead of eight. Furthermore, when trying to distribute the signal it would be necessary to have a large capacity matrix. Therefore, the new Teranex Mini converters offer a solution to take into account to bridge the gap between both technologies.
The Teranex Mini 12G-SDI to Quad Link SDI can also be used to create audiovisual surfaces by splitting a UHD signal and transmitting it to four different HD displays.
Also debuting at IBC is the new Teranex Mini SDI Distribution 12G. It has 12G SDI technology and allows you to receive an SD, HD or UHD signal to distribute it through eight different outputs to various devices. Like the other products in the Teranex Mini line, it automatically recognizes the format of the incoming SDI signal and is capable of processing different transfer rates.
A smart panel manufactured by Blackmagic can be installed on all models to view processed images on the front panel.
Ursa Mini
Blackmagic has included some new features in its Ursa Mini camera such as input for reference and timecode signals on the same connector, so there is now a free connection to add a 12G SDI input. This modification improves the quality of the images by connecting the camera to an external recorder and allows it to be used as a model for studio or live productions.
Plus, with the push of a button, the camera allows you to view the incoming 12G SDI signal on the viewfinder or foldable screen. By having this technology, we think that the PL and EF models will be ideal for studio projects.
Likewise, they have included a connector to control B4 lenses in the Ursa Mini PL models. In this way, the camera provides electrical current to the lens and can control the aperture, while the REC button on the lens provides the ability to start or stop recording.
For those who want to use their older HD lenses and, in addition to saving, take advantage of the parfocal function that allows you to maintain focus when changing the zoom, Blackmagic has released a new B4 mount for the Ursa Mini PL model that allows you to replace the original. The installation is very simple. Simply remove this piece following the same steps required to place the adapter rings and then attach the new B4 lens mount.
Next, the lens is connected to the corresponding port to enable the remote control function and be able to supply it with electrical power. It should be noted that this connection is compatible with analog and digital models. In this way, users have the possibility of using even older versions.
This new mount includes a high-precision optical system that adapts to the B4 lens standard and adjusts the usable area of the sensor to the image size of HD definition. At the same time, installing the B4 mount is much better than installing an adapter, since it eliminates the weight of the original part and is a smaller and more resistant accessory.
Using HD lenses on the Ursa Mini model results in a frame rate of 80 frames per second. Since these allow images to be captured in high definition, they offer the possibility of using modern formats such as RAW, ProRes or DNX, and accessing file metadata or other types of additional information.
Since the aperture of these versions is smaller, the focal length range is fantastic. In addition, second-hand models can be purchased online at an affordable price. Installation is also so simple that it's easy to switch between different mounts as needed.
These changes to the Ursa Mini model and the new B4 mount offer users an advanced camera for live productions or studio projects.
MultiView Update
At IBC, Blackmagic has announced the update of its MultiView that includes new digital VU meters and improved labels on the device's screen.
The VU meter measures the audio intensity in each video input and has ballistics optimized according to the standards used to measure volume units. Regardless of the number of sources selected for monitoring, the indicators are displayed crisply and clearly.
In addition, the design of the labels that appear on the screen is now more elegant and discreet. Both the VU meters and the labels and borders on the screen can be activated or deactivated independently from the corresponding menus.
Teranex Express
It has also updated the Teranex Express software with more features including an advanced tool that allows you to recursively reduce image noise and correct imperfections in material from equipment such as old video recorders.
In addition, Blackagic has designed a new main screen where you can view images, digital VU meter, signal format and timecode information. This is very useful to be able to monitor the audio intensity and easily access timecode information to confirm that the selected settings are correct.
With this new version, Teranex Express not only provides the possibility of converting between SD, HD and UHD formats, but also offers the option to reduce noise in images.
Decklink Quad 2
Another of the products that Blckmagic launches this year is the new DeckLink Quad card. This new model has been designed for programmers, system integrators and OEMs who require a single card with multiple video channels.
It offers 8 3G SDI channels, allowing you to process SD or HD content with a high frame rate at a maximum resolution of 1080p60. The most relevant feature of this model is that all channels are fully configurable, which represents a significant advance compared to the previous version.
For example, it is possible to assign 8 channels for capture or playback on the same card using the included software. By default, this component has four input and four output channels for SDI signals. However, the development toolset (SDK) allows you to subdivide the channels and define the desired configuration.
That is, you can capture or play content on each of the channels independently or configure them all for the same purpose. Users can define the combination they want, for example, 8 inputs or 8 outputs, or 1 input with 7 outputs, or simply 4 inputs and 4 outputs.
DaVinci Resolve 12 y Fusion 8
The beta version of DaVinci Resolve has been very well received at this IBC. After checking its stability, the final version of DaVinci Resolve 12 is now available on the web.
Since the new Fusion 8 has also garnered a lot of attention, it has released a new beta version for Mac and Windows computers. This includes a large number of improvements requested by users for this advanced tool for creating graphic animations and special effects whose availability on Mac and Windows computers has enjoyed great popularity.
