The jump from short film to feature film has a new path, MadridCortoFest

Atresmedia Cine promotes this festival that aims to become a direct springboard from the short film to the professional film market.

The first edition of Madridcortofest, the festival designed as a direct springboard from short films to the professional film market, started this Monday with its first screenings.

A total of 16 applicants will be able to start a film career with Atresmedia Cine. In addition to the competitors for the awards, several of the best works of Spanish cinema from recent years in this field will also pass through the festival in the coming days. The Goya Winners, Oscar Nominees or Filmoteca MadridCortoFest sessions will parade through the Sala Berlanga until next November 12 names such as Mateo Gil (Tell me that I), Nacho Vigalondo (7:35 in the morning), Javier Fesser (Binta and the great idea), J. A. Bayona (The sponge man), Koldo Serra (The witch train), Esteban Crespo (That wasn't me) or Raúl de la Fuente, whose short documentary Mining It has recently been included in the shortlist for the next Oscars.

The festival jury, made up of Daniel Sánchez Arévalo, Gonzalo del Prado and Belén Herrera, will choose after these four days of screenings the director who deserves to begin his foray into professional production, thus becoming the first representative of the MadridCortoFest generation.

The Closing Gala and Awards Ceremony will be held on November 30 as part of the Madrid Premiere Week events. All MadridCortoFest screenings and activities are free until capacity is reached.

Promoted by Atresmedia Cine and organized by Spiral Pictures in collaboration with Fundación SGAE, MadridCortoFest is the first festival that offers as a prize the contracting of a first option rights to a feature film script by the winning director by a television channel.

The festival will also award a 2nd prize consisting of the contracting of commercial distribution rights in film and video by the distributor Mare Films, and a 3rd prize endowed with the technical means necessary for the filming of a new short film sponsored by different suppliers in the audiovisual sector: RC Service, Running Camera, Aluzine, DT8 Sonido, Cortar por lo sana, La Bocina Estudio, Cinevent Online, Duloc Asesores, F4 Studio, Grupo Behind the Movies and Tecnitran Telecommunications.

MadridCortoFest also has the support of institutions such as EGEDA, the Tourism and Culture Office of the Community of Madrid, Kimuak or Greenpeace.
