RTVE presents its latest technological advances at FICOD

Pere Vila, director of Technology, Innovation and Systems at RTVE, will give a presentation on new 4K formats and moderate a transmedia seminar.

Radiotelevisión Española will be present at FICOD, the International Digital Content Forum held at the Municipal Congress Palace of Madrid from December 1 to 3.

RTVE's presence will be concentrated on Wednesday the 2nd, with a presentation on 4K formats, a transmedia seminar and the presentation of Zowi, Clan's new educational robot, developed together with the Spanish technology company BQ.

FICOD reaches its seventh edition as a reference event dedicated to the different areas of the digital economy and promoted by the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Tourism, through Red.es.

New 4K formats and transmedia seminar

The director of Technology, Innovation and Systems of RTVE, Pere Vila, will give the conference The challenge of the design, development and implementation of new 4K formats in RTVE, about the technical and artistic possibilities offered by Ultra High Definition (larger screen size and viewing angle, more perfect image and improvements in sound). A new set of technologies in the development of which RTVE, a public company committed to quality, innovation and improvement of the audiovisual industry, is being involved.

In recent years, the Corporation has participated in technical experiences and 4K productions (The passion of the Prado, the Chimes 2014, El Greco, The Farm, The Rastro, recordings of the RTVE Orchestra and Choir, or recovery of relevant film materials such as recordings of Altamira or Don Quixote by Gutiérrez Aragón), and the gradual incorporation of this technology into its production as a common format is proposed.

Pere Vila will also moderate the seminar Transmedia storytelling applied to the audiovisual and business communication world, in which Agustín Alonso (transmedia strategy coordinator at RTVE Digital), Javier Olivares (Cliffhanger, creator of the Ministry of Time series), Goyo Panadero (fundador de Dreamtellers) y José Manuel Pérez Tornero (catedrático de Comunicación de la UAB). Un encuentro sobre las nuevas formas de contar historias a través de diversos canales, desde las películas o series hasta videojuegos o redes sociales. La narrativa transmedia aprovecha las capacidades de cada canal para ofrecer al usuario una experiencia global y envolvente relacionada con la historia que se cuenta. El seminario analizará estas tendencias y sus aplicaciones en entornos profesionales y de negocios.

Zowi, el primer robot educativo para niños

RTVE's presence at FICOD is completed with the presentation of Zowi, Clan's new educational robot, developed by the Spanish technology company BQ and designed and manufactured in Europe.

The director of RTVE's Children's Content area, Yago Fandiño, will explain its educational possibilities. Zowi will allow children to play and learn, stimulate their curiosity and encourage them to discover that technology is fun and they can create it themselves.

Zowi will also be a first real contact between children and technology. In addition to its fun appearance and movements, it will awaken children's curiosity about how it works. Progressively, the little one will discover that technology can be transparent, close and exciting and that he can create it himself. Zowi, the Clan robot, looks like a toy, but it is really an educational robotic platform with a long educational journey.
