Thanks to Aspera Shares and Orchestrator, the Berlin International Film Festival is managing more than 400 files with films that are projected on 60 different screens, ensuring fast and secure delivery of content.

Berlinale

For the second consecutive year, the Berlin International Film Festival, which this year celebrates its 66th edition, has relied on rough for the fast and secure delivery of the files that house the films that are screened at the festival.

The Berlinale, which takes place in the German capital from the 11th to the 21st of this month, brings together more than 300,000 people who attend 2,500 screenings on 60 different screens. In total, more than 400 films are screened during the days of the festival, whose anti-piracy security is vital in an event of this magnitude.

Building on the Aspera workflow deployed in 2015, the Berlinale has added Aspera Orchestrator to automate and simplify internal work processes. Integrated into your existing, highly automated quality control and distribution processes, Aspera Orchestrator analyzes, validates and manages all incoming digital packages and automatically moves the films to primary storage in the data center.

As the number of films in 4K increases every day, the Berlinale has also deployed Aspera Shares to efficiently and securely handle the increase in digital file sizes of films in this resolution. The solution enables high-speed ingestion at the Berlinale data center in Berlin. All films from the festival and European Film Market programming are stored as DCPs on a large server, with 250 films transferred daily to the festival's various cinemas.

With files up to 250GB per movie, growing demand for ingesting and sharing large files has driven the need for faster transfer speeds, greater reliability, and a more streamlined digital workflow.
Thanks to Aspera technology, the festival organization can use a 10GB fiber connection to receive DCP files, quickly and securely, regardless of distance and network conditions.

In addition to Aspera Shares and Orchestrator, the Berlinale is also using the Aspera Console for complete real-time visibility, tracking and control of all material. The use of the Aspera FASP protocol also allows a large number of participants to exchange their files quickly and reliably over a wide area network (WAN).
