Hong Kong opens its Film and TV Market with Spanish participation
The Spanish audiovisual sector will be represented by Filmax and Quechua Films in the most important film and TV market in Asia.
The Hong Kong Film and TV Market (FILMART) opened its 20th edition today with the participation of more than 800 exhibitors, including a small Spanish delegation led by the Confederation of Spanish Audiovisual Producers, FAPAE. Hong Kong is considered the gateway to the Chinese market and that is why the fair has become one of the most important in the audiovisual sector in all of Asia, and the third most important in the world.
Under the umbrella 'Audiovisuals from Spain', FAPAE organizes the pavilion to promote Spanish production with the presence of the production companies Filmax and Quechua Films. Asia only represents 7.3% of Spanish audiovisual exports, unlike Latin America (35.5%) and the United States (30%), so "opening the market in Asia is a pending issue for the sector. Participation in FILMART is one more step towards improving this expansion," FAPAE explained.
Filmart is part of the Entertainment Expo, the largest gathering of the entertainment sector that encompasses 10 different events, including Filmart as well as the Hong Kong International Film Festival (HKIFF), the Hong Kong Film Awards (HKFA), the Hong Kong – Asia Film Financing Forum (HAF) and the Hong Kong-Asian Pop Music Festival (HKAMF), among others.
The Hong Kong Film and TV Market begins just a week after the launch of the first co-production between Spain and China with the project has been signed. Bikes: The Movie, an animated film produced by the Spanish Ximo Pérez.
