The director Luis Oliveros (The angel of Budapest) gets behind the camera to film in Budapest The chess player, a love and survival story set during the Nazi invasion of France in World War II, starring Marc Clotet (The sleeping voice) y Melina Matthews (The prince). They are accompanied in the cast by: Alejo Sauras, Mike Hoffmann and Andres Gertrudix, among others.

The film, based on the novel of the same name by Julio Castedo, who is in charge of the script, is produced by Ishtar Films, Tornasol Films and Hernández y Fernández PC, with the participation of Film Team, TVE and Telemadrid.

A spy story

In 1934 Diego Padilla wins the Spanish chess championship and meets a French journalist, Marianne Latour, with whom he falls in love. Marianne convinces Diego to go live with their daughter in France, where shortly afterwards Diego will be accused of being a spy by the Nazis and locked up in an SS prison.

In prison, Diego will try to survive in a hostile environment thanks to the chess hobby of Colonel Maier, the commanding officer, a bitter man, wounded by war, hedonistic and unpredictable.

The chess player It will be filmed over 7 weeks in different locations in Budapest and Gran Canaria.
