The Tattooed Lady, part of the discovery in Peru in 2006 of an important pre-Columbian tomb. From the objects buried next to the mummy, experts knew that he was a great ruler of the Mochica culture. But when they unwrapped the mummy and to the surprise of the scientists working on it, what they found was not the mummy of a man, but of a woman. This discovery has overturned some of the theories about the social structure of the pre-Inca era, accepted by most archaeologists. This woman who has been baptized as “The Lady of Cao” ruled in the Chicama valley, very close to the city of Trujillo, 1700 years ago.

The idea of making a documentary about this discovery came from the director and screenwriter José Manuel Novoa and the production company Explora Films. For two years they have been working together, with the idea of making this documentary based on the story of the first female ruler of pre-Columbian Peru, the one known as Cleopatra of Latin America.

This documentary is produced by Explora Films in co-production with RTVE, Fundación Wiese and the support of PromPerú, and developed with the support of the MEDIA Program. The project has also been supported by the El Brujo Archaeological Project and the Ministry of Culture.
