The IOC will launch its new Olympic Channel on August 21
Produced by Olympic Broadcasting Services from Madrid, the new channel has a team initially made up of 60 professionals of around twenty nationalities.
As soon as the Olympic torch is extinguished at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) will launch the new Olympic Channel.
Starting Sunday, August 21 after the closing ceremony of the Games, the Olympic Channel will be available globally through a mobile application for Android and iOS devices and the platform olympicchannel.com.
In addition, athletes and fans will be able to follow the Olympic Channel through social media (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and YouTube) or register to receive updates from the Olympic Channel through its website.
IOC President Thomas Bach said: "The launch of the Olympic Channel is the beginning of an exciting new journey to connect audiences around the world with the Olympic movement all year round. Fans will be able to follow the sports, the athletes and the stories behind the Olympic Games. The Olympic Channel will inspire new generations of athletes and fans."
This free platform will present original programming, with live broadcasts, news and summaries of Olympic activity throughout the year. The Olympic Channel's own production will include short and long-form content focused on elite athletes, their search for success and sport around the world.
Designed for a global audience, the platform will initially be offered in English with subtitles in nine different languages and will feature a video on demand service.
Canal Olympic intends to foster agreements with other parties interested in the Olympic movement, including broadcasters and National Olympic Committees to develop localized versions of the broadcast. Localized versions will offer specific user experiences in the local language on digital platforms, and will also include linear television programming options.
The channel's team is initially made up of 60 professionals of around twenty nationalities.
The commercial and distribution departments are located at the IOC headquarters in Lausanne (Switzerland) while technical support, production and broadcasting will be carried out from Madrid by Olympic Broadcasting Services (OBS), audiovisual arm of the Olympic Committee whose headquarters are located precisely in the capital of Spain.
