Arris and Telefónica will develop a new video platform

The project intensifies Telefónica's strategic partnership with Arris and takes it to a new level, building on previous collaborations in Brazil and Spain.

It will follow a modular approach leveraging Telefónica's scale to offer next-generation video services to its subscribers and simplify the implementation of the operator's business around the world. The project intensifies Telefónica's strategic partnership with Arris and takes it to a new level, building on previous collaborations in Brazil and Spain.

The new set-top portfolio called Proteus will be launched next year and will include set-top boxes supporting wireless HD and UHD over DTH, cable and IPTV technologies. This new family of products will give Telefónica the flexibility to bring new services to the market, quickly and efficiently, through its scalable and low-maintenance architecture.

Steve McCaffery, director of international business at Arris, acknowledged at IBC 2016 that "we are strategically positioned to help service providers transform entertainment through the evolution of set-top. And Telefónica's choice of Arris to develop its new platform represents the progression of a successful partnership, which will bring next-generation services to millions of subscribers across Europe and Latin America."
