Telefónica renews its management leadership to adapt it to the digital environment
José María Álvarez-Pallete replaces the presidents of Telefónica in Spain and Latin America. Emilio Gayo replaces Luis Miguel Gilpérez as executive president of Telefónica Spain.
The executive president of Telefónica, José María Álvarez-Pallete, has completed the renovation of the dome of the operator inherited from the César Alierta era with the aim of simplifying it and adapting it to the digital world.
Álvarez-Pallete, highlighted that “The digital world requires permanent renewal from us. And the structure proposed today obeys this requirement. A generational change in the company's organization, which will make Telefónica a more agile, simpler and definitely focused on management, customer service, growth, efficiency and profitability.
In the new structure, the areas of the General Secretariat and Public Affairs and Regulation (until now under the direction of Ramiro Sánchez de Lerín and Carlos López Blanco respectively), are unified and will be led by Pablo de Carvajal. On the other hand, the People area (HR) is strengthened, which now reports to the executive president. Marta Machicot is appointed to head this direction, who will join the Executive Committee.
Changes in Telefónica Spain and Latin America
Emilio Gayo will replace Luis Miguel Gilpérez cAs executive president of Telefónica Spain. At the same time, the figure of Chief Executive Officer (COO) of Telefónica Spain was created, appointing María Jesús Almazor, until now director of the Southern Territory of Telefónica España.
As to Telefónica Hispanoamérica, until now led by Eduardo Caride, splits into two units to more effectively address the different market situations: the Telefónica Hispam Sur unit (encompassing operations in Argentina, Chile, Peru and Uruguay), headed by Bernardo Quinn, (until now director of global Human Resources) and Telefónica Hispam Norte (Colombia, Mexico, Central America, Ecuador and Venezuela), headed by Alfonso Gómez Palacio.
In the Global Resources area, led by Guillermo Ansaldo, Pallete proposes the replacement of the position of CEO of Telxius, which will be occupied by Mario Martín, until now director of the office of the CEO of Telefónica. In addition, Natalia Sainz, until now director of Financial Planning and Coordination, will be appointed as director of the Office of the CEO of Telefónica, replacing Mario Martín.
