The Hispasat 30W-6 satellite, the twelfth satellite in its fleet, was successfully launched from Florida (USA), which will operate from the orbital position at 30º West.

Hispasat has successfully launched, at 06:33 Spanish time, its twelfth satellite, Hispasat 30W-6, from Space Launch Complex 40 (SLC-40) of the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station (Florida), aboard the company's Falcon 9 launch vehicle SpaceX.

Approximately 33 minutes after the rocket took off, the Hispasat 30W-6 satellite separated from the launch vehicle, and its initialization and solar panels were deployed. From there, maneuvers began to position the new satellite at the point in the geostationary orbit where the testing phase will be carried out to check its correct operation, which will last several weeks.

Once the tests have been completed, the satellite will be located in its final orbital position of 30º West.

Carlos Espiños, CEO of the Spanish operator, stated that "with this new satellite we will respond to the growing demand for connectivity that is detected in the market. In the hyperconnected world in which we live, access to quality broadband is a vital need for economic, social and even personal development, and this satellite comes to satisfy this need in those places where other technologies do not reach. With the Hispasat 30W-6 we expand capacity and services and complete the current phase of the company's growth plan."

From its orbital position at 30º West, Hispasat 30W-6 will replace and expand the capacity of Hispasat 30W-4. It has 40 transponders in Ku band, up to 6 beams in Ka band and 10 transponders in C band.

The new satellite has beams aimed at the Mediterranean, Europe, Spain, northwest Africa and the American continent, increases the operator's offer in the Ka and Ku bands and incorporates a new C-band beam with Pan-American coverage.

With this configuration, the Hispasat 30W-6 will contribute to reducing the digital divide in North Africa, Latin America or the Iberian Peninsula.

The Ka band beams over Spanish territory will provide quality Internet access in rural areas, thus favoring access to information technologies in those places where it is not possible to do so with other infrastructures.

Audiovisual content

In addition, the Hispasat 30W-6 will reinforce the distribution of audiovisual content in Latin America, allowing access to more than 50 million users through its audiovisual distribution platforms, and will offer connectivity on high-speed trains and maritime services in the Caribbean and the Mediterranean.

It ships a Ka-band receiver demonstrator based on photonics technology and whose modules have been designed by DAS Photonics and TRYO Aeroespace. With features similar to those of the current receivers available on the market, the application of photonic technology to this type of components will in the future make it possible to significantly reduce their mass and volume and improve the performance of the payload.
