Globo TV at the World Cup in Russia

The Brazilian broadcaster Globo TV thanks to the collaboration with Gearhouse Broadcast has been deployed to cover the Russia World Cup a panoramic study in which augmented reality has been included.

The production studio is located in the heart of Red Square, in Moscow. Originally tested within Globo's facilities in Rio de Janeiro, and then at Gearhouse's headquarters in the United Kingdom, the studio guarantees Globo the ability to develop programs with great visual impact thanks to the use of augmented reality.

Jose Manuel Marino, director of Sports Technology at Globo Tv, assures that "the studio is an original project developed by Globo's Art and Technology division and represents a great advance compared to what we had in the Olympic games in Rio de Janeiro in 2016. There are no physical scene elements in the studio. We have only three giant LED screens, six cameras and nothing else. We are putting on the air four news programs per day and two weekly programs directly from this studio. We are using remote production from Rio, so that the studio was “both innovative and efficient.”

Ed Carpenter, CEO of Gearhouse Broadcast UK, highlights that "we work very closely with Globo every step of the way to Moscow to help realize the broadcaster's vision. Increasing reality is a powerful tool for achieving complex analysis for mainstream audiences with a pleasing and creative aesthetic. Avid's technology is the right choice for this type of broadcast application and will increasingly feature in major sporting events such as the World Cup. It has been an excellent opportunity to see the Maestro solution in operation."

Through a suite of augmented reality tools, Avid Maestro AR provides the ability to create captivating 3D virtual objects that appear to be a real part of the environment. The solution enables the insertion and control of virtual 3D objects and graphics, as well as sophisticated manipulations of multiple images in real time.

For its part, Avid Maestro Designer is a design tool used by graphic artists and designers to create the necessary arts by importing stills, videos and graphics from third parties, providing great flexibility to work on 2D or 3D content.
