Sergio Oslé (Movistar+): “we are entering the era of a new television”
The president of Movistar+, the leader in pay television in Spain with 4 million customers and a 60% market share, shares the platform's vision for new forms of consumption at the 4K Summit.
Sergio Oslé, president of Movistar+, has been in charge of opening the presentations at the 4K Summit which from today until Friday is celebrated in the Malaga Digital Content Hub, organized by Medina Media con Panorama Audiovisual as media partner.
At Movistar+, the leader in pay television in Spain with 4 million customers and a 60% market share, "we are aware that this industry is changing drastically. We are entering the era of a new television. The industry is changing because consumers are changing the way we consume television," he highlighted.
Oslé has stressed that five years ago, on-demand consumption represented only 5% at Movistar. Today this figure has risen to 20%… and rising.
"Consumption patterns have changed. Channels such as Movistar Estrenos or Movistar Series show an on-demand consumption of 80%, or in cases such as the talent show Fame, let's dance, represents half of the on-demand consumption. In content like MotoGP, 20% follow the competitions on demand,” he noted.
He also highlighted that a fifth of customers follow content on devices other than the television.
“Movistar+ has more than four million households as customers, they are customers who increase their consumption by 10% year-on-year, and our content offering is increasingly diverse and more relevant,” he assured.
During peak hours, ratings for content under the Movistar brand are reached by between 15-20% of our subscribers.
“Movistar+ has unique technology that provides our users with functionalities such as click and watch, on demand, recording, last seven days… However, we continue to evolve with new ultra-fast access technologies (we are the European country with the most fiber deployed), new user interface, cognitive intelligence through the Aura service with which the user can talk with their app or television, the new Movistar Kids application (which we will launch in a few days with content aimed at children with quality and safe content) and a new UHD set-top box WiFi compatible with Aura and HDR. At the end of this month we will have 300,000 new generation decoder-routers compatible with UHD content on the market,” he stressed.
original production
Oslé has highlighted that in terms of original production, the platform produces original fiction content (Movistar Originals) and entertainment (Canal #0).
"We launch a new original series every month, with much more satisfactory results than we expected. The most viewed series on the platform are original Movistar+ series such as The Plague, Look What You've Done, Velvet Collection, The Zone, The Day After Tomorrow o Giants”, he pointed out.
“As incredible as it may seem, there are more users who have seen To the fish than the Barcelona-Real Madrid Classic”, he acknowledged.
Regarding #0, Oslé commented that the channel helps the platform "to improve our offer. According to internal data, 23% of its users spend relevant time watching content on the channel."
Finally, in terms of sport, Sergio Oslé has pointed out that "Movistar continues with a strong commitment to football and other sports. We are very happy and will continue investing in this critical content. We have recently launched the #Vamos channel whose objective is to become a reference in sports information."
