Edgeware adquiere Cavena Image Products

Edgeware has acquired the Swedish company Cavena Image Products, specialized in the development of solutions for subtitle automation, for 8 million Swedish crowns (780,000 euros).

Cavena develops solutions for subtitling automation for the broadcast market, counting among its clients Sky, Canal+ France or HBO Asia, among others.

Its technology uses optical character recognition to convert subtitles from image formats to text, providing a much higher quality experience for OTT viewers. The system can also transcode different subtitle formats in milliseconds, scaling to support hundreds of channels.

The acquisition will have a long-term strategic impact as it will allow Edgeware to offer a broader set of products to broadcast services and content owners.

The integration of subtitling technology into the Edgeware proposition will allow broadcasters to create a higher value source system that enables personalized advertising, supports any type of device, and now automate the subtitling process. The text generated by Cavena can be passed to Edgeware's Repackager system, to create “error-free” OTT content. The combined solution will support any language, including Asian characters.
