Peruvian media group La República, based in Lima, Peru, has incorporated a complete workflow of Blackmagic Design including cameras Ursa Broadcast, production mixers ATEM Television Studio HD, y Blackmagic studio cameras, among other equipment. The investment is part of the company's digital transformation and sets the standard for RTV, its new digital television channel.

Founded in 1981, Grupo La República is the second largest print and digital media group in Peru, and owns several print news publications, including La República, El Popular and Libero. Recently, La República embarked on a digital refresh adapting all of its print content for its new digital platforms, including live news and sports programming through RTV.

Alfieri Noce, technical director of R&D at La República, highlights that "this digital transformation is something we have wanted to do for a long time, but to be successful we knew we needed to have the right equipment. I have used Blackmagic Design equipment in the past, so when we were ready to move forward, I advised opting for this manufacturer."

"The reason for implementing Blackmagic Design was very clear from the beginning. We needed affordable equipment that also offered the superior quality that Grupo La República is known for," adds Noce.

La República began incorporating three Ursa Broadcast cameras for the production of several programs, including the morning political space Without Script, with Rosa María Palacios, the sports Libero and the pop culture entertainment program Populovers.

"A main factor for us in selecting the Ursa Broadcast was the ability to use the lenses we already had, including older ones, after the commercialization of HD lenses. With the URSA Broadcast, we did not have to repurchase an entire stock of lenses, which helped us stay within budget," highlights Noce.

Additionally, La República has four Blackmagic studio cameras. "Blackmagic studio cameras are extremely reliable and complement the Ursa Broadcast cameras that we have in the studio. Some of the features that make the Blackmagic Studio Camera perfect for our productions are the 10" viewfinder, the camera remote controls, the different input connections and how easy and intuitive it is to use," he acknowledges.

La República has also integrated two ATEM Television Studio HD live production switchers.

Reliable and easy-to-use technology

Noce emphasizes that "because of the dynamism of our shows, we need mixers that are reliable and easy to use. The ATEM Television Studio HD has made the production process much easier for us, especially when it comes to changing cameras, zooming in and focusing on the details we really want to highlight during the broadcast. Another quality that influenced our decision to integrate them into our workflow was their compact design. Everything is so easy to control from the front panel, and they are also super portable, so we can move them around as needed. necessary.”

To complete its digital upgrade, Grupo La República has also relied on a SmartScope Duo 4K to monitor emissions, finding the waveform monitoring incredibly useful. Additional equipment from Blackmagic Design includes a 20x20 Smart Videohub matrix, SmartView 4K for source monitoring, and several converters, including the 12G Fiber Optic Mini Converter and twelve 6G SDI to HDMI Mini Converters.

"We have two other studios in Peru, Chiclayo and Arequipa, where we will take some of our equipment as we buy more for our studio in Lima. That's the good thing about Blackmagic Design, the price allows you to expand your workflow as needed without hurting your budget," says Noce.
