In the most important film market in the world, Andalusian professionals have had the opportunity to see firsthand how this market works in Cannes and the business possibilities it offers.

Extenda in International Film Market

A total of twelve Andalusian companies in the audiovisual sector have participated in the International Film Market of the Cannes Film Festival to promote their creations through a commercial mission organized by the Ministry of the Presidency, Public Administration and Interior, through Extenda-Andalusian Foreign Promotion Agency, during the past May 16 and 17.

Through this mission, Extenda has facilitated the access of Andalusian audiovisual companies to the Marché International du Films, the most important film market in the world, where Andalusian professionals have had the opportunity to see firsthand how this market works and the business possibilities it offers.

Likewise, during the mission, Andalusian companies have been able to establish commercial contacts with co-producers and distributors from around the world to expand their business opportunities, thus promoting their internationalization and improving the international positioning of the Andalusian audiovisual industry in general.

The Marché International du Films fair is the most important market in the world focused on the purchase, sale, financing, distribution and co-production of films. On an annual basis, this year it celebrated its 72nd edition from May 14 to 23. More than 12,000 visitors have passed through it, of which more than 1,800 have been buyers.

Andalusian companies in Cannes

The Andalusian companies that have traveled to Cannes with Extenda come from Seville (Acaju, Acheron Films, Góndola Films, Grupo Lettera, Andaluza de Inversiones Audiovisuales, La Claqueta, Labalanza Producciones and Tarkemoto); and Malaga (Cineand Distribution, Danidogfilms, Ezekiel Montes Producciones and Kandale Films).

The organization of this action by Extenda will be co-financed with funds from the European Union through the P.O. ERDF of Andalusia 2014-2020, with a community contribution of 80%.

This trade mission to Cannes is part of the Action Plan for the Internationalization of Andalusian Cultural Industries, designed by Extenda in collaboration with the Andalusian Agency of Cultural Institutions for 2019 in order to expand the international business of companies in the cultural field (flamenco, publishing, circus arts, audiovisual, music, etc.).

This is a plan that has been systematically organized since 2013 for different markets and areas of the culture industry. Since 2013, more than 1,000 participations from almost 500 companies from different subsectors have been registered in cultural actions organized by Extenda, which has had a good response and high participation.

This planning includes trade missions, international meetings, attendance at fairs, digital portals, technical conferences, market studies, etc. For its part, the Andalusian Agency of Cultural Institutions leads training actions aimed at promoting the professionalization of the sector.

Specifically, in 2018, a total of 57 companies in the audiovisual sector participated in 51 Extenda actions, generating a total of 147 participations. Of these 57 companies, more than half (58%) have been participating in Extenda actions for between two and five years, which shows the usefulness of the programming.

2019 Program

For 2019, in addition to the mission to the Marché du Films de Cannes, Extenda has scheduled other promotional actions in the business forums of the main European film events, such as the commercial mission carried out to the European Film Market, the film market framed in the Berlinale, in which 17 Andalusian companies participated.

Likewise, Extenda organized a reverse trade mission in the Malaga Film Screenings 2019, within the framework of the Malaga Film Festival, in which eight Andalusian companies participated, holding thirty meetings with six operators from Canada, the United States, Argentina, Turkey, the Caribbean and Brazil.

Additionally, this May there will be a Technical conference on Online Audiovisual Content in the United States and, in November, a International Audiovisual Meeting within the framework of the Seville European Film Festival, which will promote the holding of B2B meetings between Andalusian companies and international guests.

Along with these promotional actions, Extenda makes its information, training and consulting services available to companies in the audiovisual sector of Andalusia, with actions that range from participation in business opportunities in different markets or the organization of workshops and technical conferences to professional advice for the implementation of international diagnosis plans, international digital marketing or international brand positioning.
