Miquel Iceta visits the Marché du Film at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival

The Minister of Culture and Sports, Miquel Iceta, visited the Film Market of the 2023 Cannes Film Festival, in which Spain is the Guest Country of Honor, with the motto 'The moment of our cinema'.

The minister highlighted that "Spanish cinema is in a very good moment, not only because of its quality but because of its marketing in Europe and beyond." Iceta has thanked the commitment of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation and ICEX, in their "commitment to the internationalization of our cinema and audiovisual industry."

According to him, work is being done “to unite the best of two worlds: to convince the big platforms to come to Spain and to promote our cinema to become increasingly better known and attract greater profits.”

Within the framework of the Marché, Spain includes in its program as Guest of Honor a total of 13 producers participating in the Spanish Spotlight of the Producers Network; 4 documentary proposals are presented in the Spanish Showcase from Cannes Docs; 5 projects in the development phase go hand in hand with Spanish Screenings in Goes to Cannes; and in the Short Film Corner 8 short films are shown.

The Spanish program also emphasizes the attractiveness of country as a filming destination, in the promotion of co-production or in the Spain Audiovisual Hub Plan for Europe, framed in the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan.

At the 76th edition of the Cannes Film Festival, eleven Spanish titles will be screened in different sections, including established directors such as Víctor Erice, Pedro Almodóvar and Carlos Saura, and new talents.
