Poison

Atresmedia Studios prepara Poison, series created by Javier Calvo y Javier Ambrossi (“the Javis”), about the life and death of Cristina Ortiz (La Veneno), one of the most popular LGTBI icons in Spain. The series will be made up of 50-minute long chapters.

Veneno is produced by Atresmedia Studios in collaboration with Latin Sum and with the associated production of Apache Films.

The series, which will be broadcast by Atresmedia, is a fiction inspired by Say! Neither whore nor saint, the official memoirs of La Veneno written by journalist Valeria Vegas, also one of the protagonist's best friends and part of the series' writing team.

Adored for her charisma and her free, foul-mouthed and fun way of expressing herself, La Veneno achieved popularity thanks to her television appearances in the 90s. However, her life and especially her death remain an enigma.

Poison will be a series that will narrate, through the life of La Veneno, the history of LGTBI reality in Spain from the 60s to the present. It is the story of a fighting woman, and a very local story, whose amazing life and universal values, with which people from all over the world can identify, make it a series of global interest.

"As in any life, but especially in one as intense as La Veneno's, genres will intermingle, varying at each stage of her life. 'Veneno' will need all types of genres to be told. Because she was a genre in herself," according to its creators.

In the words of Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi: "La Veneno's life is a tragedy, it is a thriller, it almost borders on terror. But she never looked at it like that. She always took it with humor, courage and imagination. That is why, La Veneno is our heroine. Because although 'Veneno' is the story of a transsexual woman in a time where transsexual people were considered the last social step, she never felt like a victim. She was always a fighter. 'Veneno' is more closer to 'Rocky' than 'The Danish Girl'. Poison “It will be a tribute to all those relegated to the last row and to those who fight hard to reach the first.”
