Filming of 'Nasdrovia', the new original Movistar+ series, begins under the direction of Marc Vigil
Based on the novel by Sergio Sarria, 'The Man Who Hated Paulo Coelho', the series of six 25-minute episodes will be filmed until mid-August in Madrid and surrounding areas.
The filming of Nasdrovia, the new original series Movistar+ produced in collaboration with Globomedia (The Mediapro Studio), has already started. This comedy revolves around the mid-life crisis that Edurne (Leonor Watling) and her partner and ex-husband, Julián (Hugo Silva), are going through when she, bored with working as a defense lawyer for the corrupt, realizes that this is not the life she wants.
The recording, which will last eight weeks, will take place in Madrid and its surroundings. Viewers will be able to easily identify very recognizable locations in the capital such as the Mercado de la Cebada, Plaza de Santa Bárbara, Reina and Valverde streets or Plaza de los Mostenses. The construction of Nasdrovia, the restaurant that gives its title to the production, has also been carried out in a location in the center of Madrid with complete meticulousness and taking care of even the smallest detail.
Created by Sergio Sarria (The Intermission, Chapter 0, Malaka, Perestroika), Miguel Esteban (The Intermission, The End of Comedy -for which he was nominated for an Emmy-, Chapter 0) and Luismi Pérez (The Intermission, Malaka and Chapter 0) and directed by Marc Vigil (The Ministry of Time, Malaka, Vis a Vis, Living Without Permission, Red Eagle, 7 Lives…), Nasdrovia is based on the novel by Sergio Sarria himself, The man who hated Paulo Coelho (The Sphere of Books), published in 2016.
“Although we have respected the universe of The man who hated Paulo Coelho, in the adaptation process we have added important changes with respect to the novel. While in the book the story was told from the point of view of Julián (Hugo Silva), in the series we do it from the point of view of Edurne (Leonor Watling) since we wanted there to be a powerful female character in the face of the testosterone-filled world of the Russian mafia," explains Sergio Sarria. "However, we have tried to escape from clichés and instead of drawing the typical Russian gangsters, we have taken them to other, more unusual places. Our gangsters talk about Instagram, the latest episode of Game of Thrones, gluten allergies... and they're also scary when they have to be. Nasdrovia is an atypical comedy, where the humor comes from comic situations and not from jokes." In addition, Sarria adds, "Marc's vision has been key to taking the series to another level and making both the characters and the plots grow."
The series stars Edurne (Leonor Watling) and Julián (Hugo Silva), two successful lawyers who are deeply uptight and somewhat snobbish. They were married for several years and now, already divorced, without children and with a job that absorbs them, they have an atrocious fear of the future and loneliness. Their small cynical universe is shaken when the midlife crisis and Franky (Luis Bermejo), a finished and exceptional chef specializing in Russian food, burst into their lives. They can't think of any other way to overcome their problems than to quit their jobs and open a Russian food restaurant. What they didn't expect is that he would become the mafia's favorite, and that his previously boring life would end up being a delirious and dangerous thriller.
