Along with Leader, other manufacturers such as Appear TV, Astro Design, Blackmagic Design, Fujinon, Ikegami, MOOV, Samsung and Telegenic participated in this experience.

BT Sport 8K and IBC 2019

One of the experiences that attracted the attention of those who visited IBC 2019 was the live broadcast in 8K one hour long by BT from Northampton (England) to RAI Center in Amsterdam.

To monitor the signal feed, the multi-standard waveform monitor was chosen. LV5900 HD/4K/8K de Leader. This broadcast, one of the first of its kind in the world, allowed IBC attendees to watch the Gallagher Premiership Rugby 7s tournament broadcast directly from the Northampton Saints stadium. Other partners supporting this demonstration included Appear TV, Astro Design, Blackmagic Design, Fujinon, Ikegami, MOOV, Samsung and Telegenic.

“We are very happy to have been chosen to participate in this historic demonstration,” says Kevin Salvidge, business development director at Leader Europe. “The LV5900 allows obstetrics technicians to check the parameters of video and audio signals at any point in the production and delivery chain to ensure that raw and encoded signals are as close as possible to the highest delivery quality.”

“8K representa actualmente la cima en términos de calidad de producción, creando una imagen cuatro veces más nítida que la de 4K y 16 veces más nítida que la de HD, además de audio de muy alta calidad. Con la fuente de alimentación de un enorme 48 gigabits por segundo, mucho depende de la red de entrega y la elección de códecs. La demostración fue un homenaje muy impresionante a la habilidad tanto de BT Sport como de la división Media & Broadcast de BT”, añade.

“For those who do not want to deploy 8K services, the LV5900 can simultaneously display two 4K sources, something that is a given with HD products, but is currently not available with any 4K product until now.”

“We have a long history of firsts, starting with HD and 3D content and now adding 8K live sports broadcasts to the list,” says Dominik Wrona, Director of Outside Broadcast at BT's Media and Broadcast Division. “This demonstration is another example of how our specialist broadcast division team is bringing new innovations and technologies to life and partnering with some of the best brands in the business to make this happen,” concludes Kevin Salvidge.

Leader LV5900

Super resolution technology

Launching in Europe at IBC 2019, the LV5900 is designed for content producers, broadcasters and equipment manufacturers progressing to 8K. A new focus detection algorithm developed by Leader applies nonlinear super-resolution technology even to low-contrast images for which it was previously difficult to detect focus errors.

Housed in a 4U half-rack width portable unit with a 9-inch, 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution front panel monitor, it supports the SMPTE ST2082-12 standard, which receives 8K images through a 12G-SDI quad link. Measurement capabilities include video signal waveform display, vector display, image display, eye pattern display, five-bar display, CIE chromaticity display, freezing error detection, black error detection, and full range error detection.

They can be display up to four inputs simultaneously in various user-definable configurations, or an input signal can be displayed on multiple screens. The status screen allows operators to check the status of errors at any time or compile an event log along a user-definable timeline. Improved data analysis can also be performed. Operators can graphically check the phase difference and sync status of incoming SDI video based on the external reference sync signal (black burst or three-level sync).

Leader's new proposal soporta HDR tanto HLG, Dolby PQ, S-Log3, C-Log, Log-C y OOTF. On the LV54900's Cinezone display, the brightness of the HDR area is displayed by rendering the SDR area in monochrome and the HDR area in a brightness-dependent color.

Eye pattern and jitter can be displayed on SDI signals from HD-SDI to 12G-SDI. These measured values can be measured automatically or under cursor control. Additionally, the histogram can be overlaid and displayed on the eye pattern screen.
The LV54900 can decode and display superimposed subtitles on SDI signals, CEA-608 subtitles, CEA-708 subtitles and OP47 Teletext subtitles.

Patterns can be output in various forms, including HD multi-format color bars, 4K multi-format color bars and HDR color bars.

As to audio, includes audio to SDI integration, external input MADI audio signals, level meter, Lissajous, volume display, muting and clip error detection. Detected errors can be logged as an event log.

Finally, it includes a screenshot function to capture the display screen as still image data. A frame capture function is also provided to capture frames, including erase periods. Frame capture data can be checked on a PC and checked for errors using the frame capture viewer. Timecode can be overlaid on the SDI signal and can also be used to record timing events.
