Created by Martin Hodara, Tomás Coste and Enrique Videla, the project will be a crime thriller where the region becomes the protagonist of the plot.

The Cliff

The Mediapro Studio Argentina & Chile y Vice Studios have reached an agreement for the co-production of the series The Cliff, a police thriller set in the Patagonia, currently in development, and whose filming will take place in real locations in Chile. Created by Martin Hodara (black snow), Tomas Coste and Enrique Videla, the project was the winner of the Development Award from the National Institute of Cinema and Audiovisual Arts of Argentina (INCAA).

The Cliff is defined as Patagonia Black, genre in line with the tone created by Hodara in the film Black Snow, where the stage becomes another protagonist. The series is inspired by the Aysén case, a real event that shocked the region after the deaths of a group of young people in Chilean Patagonia that occurred between 1997 and 2001. The plot follows the aesthetics of film noir and uses the resources of the police thriller through a narrative treatment that plays with time, creating an innovative structure, and an atmosphere of suspense that surrounds the story, both due to the dramatic events it narrates and the setting itself.

The story takes place in a small town in Patagonia, affected by the suicides of several teenagers. Beneath these deaths lie atrocious crimes with political ramifications and complex power relations, which become evident when the authorities, far from arresting the guilty, protect them, leaving the monitoring of the case in the hands of the victims' relatives themselves. They will be joined by Juana and Miguel, the main characters of the series. Two people whose tragic destinies converge in this remote place in the world, where they will provide a new perspective that makes them suitable to immerse themselves fully in this police labyrinth.

Patagonia inspires solitary characters in fiction, little friends of social conventions and often owners of dark destinies. In some cases, they have committed crimes and, instead of separating them from the institutions, they have been “hidden” in the oblivion of the isolated peoples of this vast region of the Southern Cone of Argentina and Chile.

Laura Fernandez Espeso, corporate director and television director of The Mediapro Studio, comments that “we are proud to announce a new project by The Mediapro Studio in Argentina and Chile and to do so in collaboration with Vice Studios, which brings its unique style of storytelling and whose hallmarks of quality and avant-garde fully coincide with ours.”

"We are excited by the idea of making the vision of creators like Martin Hodara a reality, in an innovative commitment like this 'Patagonia Noir', with the help of a partner like The Mediapro Studio, which adds all its experience in fiction to the project," he stated, for his part, Andres Reymondes, CEO de Vice U.S. Hispanics & Latam.

Nacho Gil is the executive producer of The Cliff, which also has Maximiliano Sanguine and Jimena Hernández as co-executive producers. The fiction has not yet announced the cast.
