Madrid Content City: the largest hub in Spain and the second in Europe
The initiative already has the support of Netflix, Planeta and Secuoya Studios and hopes to incorporate other production companies, service companies, majors and any other representative of the audiovisual industry into this complex in the near future.
A large production hub, filming services, university campus, restaurant areas, sports and leisure areas are some of the facilities that will house the 140,000 square meters of Madrid Content City.
The project, presented this Wednesday in Tres Cantos (Madrid), aims to become the largest business park currently being developed in the Community of Madrid and has a investment of 120 million euros fully covered by private capital.
Currently, its first phase has already been completely completed and is in operation, a total of 22,000 square meters distributed among five studios, production services, offices, warehouses, restaurant areas and an Auditorium with capacity for more than 250 people.
It is in these facilities where Netflix has located, together with Secuoya, its first production hub in Europe and from which it has produced some of the most relevant titles of the last season.
The ambitious continuity of this project will be developed in the short term and, through gradual parallel phases, it will provide the complex with services and facilities that will make it one of the largest audiovisual complexes in Europe, finishing the construction of the last phases in the last quarter of 2021.
We are talking about 140,000 square meters in which training, industry, production services, and resource areas will converge and everything necessary to turn Madrid into the epicenter of the industry and Audiovisuals into one of the country's development engines.
Madrid Content City starts from the idea of merge University and Industry already counting on the support of Netflix, Grupo Planeta and Secuoya Studios, opening this space so that in the near future other production companies, service companies, majors and any other representative of the audiovisual industry can join this complex.
If with its first phase completely executed, the project today has 5 studios completely completed and in operation (3 of 1,200 square meters and 2 of 1,500 square meters each), in its second phase it will expand the number of studios to reach ten.
Thus, we will be talking about 1 new studio of 2000 square meters and four of 1,500 square meters each that, given the characteristics of the facilities, will allow a dozen large-scale productions to work in parallel, simultaneously and independently and will become the Tres Cantos complex in the second largest production center in Europe, only after Pinewood (UK) and greater than Cinecittà in Rome, Babelsberg in Germany and Cite du Cinema in France.
At 14 meters high, the studies are the highest in Spain and provide available height space at the levels of the best studios in Europe and the United States. On the other hand, they have the highest standards in terms of soundproofing and acoustic insulation. Regarding connectivity, it is important to highlight that all connections are fiber optics, which guarantees the workflow in 4K HDR.
The facilities have dressing rooms integrated into the complex with natural light and that have a television, toilet, shower and rest area. The electrical power is 250 KW and among other services the facilities have waste management control, a fully equipped infirmary as well as its own catering integrated into the facilities.
The second phase, which will conclude in mid-2021, in addition to the aforementioned studies, its facilities include 2,400 square meters dedicated to catering, 3,500 to production offices, 6,000 to warehouses and another 6,000 to company offices.
Real estate development
Madrid Content City is a initiative that will promote Roots, which is a real estate development group Raúl Berdones and his partner Pablo Jimeno. Roots will not only develop this concept of an audiovisual park in Spain, but also in other parts of the world such as Colombia and Mexico.
Planeta Group Through its Training and Universities division, it will participate in Madrid Content City with the creation of an innovative university campus specialized in audiovisual creation, management and production.
With a vision of an educational hub and a vocation to be an international benchmark, Madrid Content Campus is a contemporary higher education project understood as an innovative ecosystem where industry, universities and professionals develop together. With a new pedagogical model that integrates the evolution in skills, disciplines and multiple profiles that respond to real hiring perspectives and needs. It is expected to have the capacity to accommodate more than 7,000 students. Madrid Content City wants no one to be excluded for economic reasons and that is why it will award one hundred scholarships annually to train new professionals.
Madrid Content City advocates for sustainability in compliance with the highest environmental values. Thus, in its execution it is planned that more than 5,000 trees will be planted, more than 50 charging points for electric cars will be installed, photovoltaic energy will be used for the buildings' self-consumption, LED technology will be used, the complex will be connected by a bike path to the commuter station and there will be waste management facilities in all the studios.
