The Government has ceased Fernando Gareas president of the EFE Agency. Through a letter addressed to the professionals of the agency, with a presence in 180 cities in 120 countries, Garea has assured that he will continue to perform his duties until the Government appoints his replacement.

“Last Saturday the Secretary of State for Communication informed me of the decision of the President of the Government to proceed with my dismissal as president of the EFE Agency,” he states in the letter.

Throughout this year and a half at the head of the public agency, Garea has introduced important innovations such as the Editorial Board, the creation of Efeminista, the implementation of an Equality Plan or the modernization of the image.

Garea (Madrid, 1962), thirteenth president of EFE, replaced José Antonio Vera in the position in July 2018, who had carried out that task since 2012.

Until his appointment, Garea served as deputy director of El Confidencial, participated in the founding of the newspapers El Mundo and Público and was responsible for the parliamentary information of El País between 2008 and 2017.

He has also participated as a talk show host on radio and television programs such as Let's Live It's Two Days of the Being Chain or in 24 Hours on National Radio, as well as in political debates on various channels.
