The institution reaffirms its commitment to this program to help film creators, increasing the number of residents to twenty.

Film Academy

The Film Academy will expand with its own funds the financial envelope for the second edition of Film Academy Residences, a program carried out with the support of the Madrid City Council to provide film creators with the necessary means and aid for the development of audiovisual projects.

The Board of Directors of the institution, at its meeting on February 11, decided that the Academy will contribute 150,000 euros of its own funds to the next call for this initiative.

In this second edition, which is expected to take place from September 2020 to June 2021, the number of selected residents will increase from the current 15 to 20 and there will be access advantages to the program for academics. Among the novelties, there is also the possibility of this initiative traveling to other cities outside the capital, an objective for which the institution is in advanced conversations.

A successful first edition

The first edition of Residences, which began its journey in September 2019, crossed its midpoint with the day of Pitch Work in Progress, where residents first presented their projects to Spanish producers, and will continue until mid-June 2020. The 2019-2020 program will ultimately support 16 creators, with the addition of Diego Pinillos Fernández and his project The value is assumed, after the selection of resident Guillermo García López for the Cannes Festival residency program with the same project that he is developing in Film Academy Residences, City Without a Dream.

To make this first edition a reality, the Madrid City Council contributed 300,000 euros and the Academy 22,800 euros. Since September 2019, residents have participated in different activities such as mentoring with prominent filmmakers, meetings with national and international industry professionals, training sessions and visits to collaborating institutions such as the Madrid Film Office or Cineteca.
