These are the 20 projects chosen for the third edition of the Film Academy Residencies
The aid program for film creators developed by the Film Academy and with the support of the Madrid City Council, Academia de Cine Residencies, already has its 20 winning projects.
After the evaluation of the 691 applications submitted, professionals from the sector constituted in an assessment committee have chosen David Pérez Sañudo (50 picograms), Javier Marco (to the face), Helena Girón (Low Risk), Raquel Colera (boy things), Paula Fabra (Caregivers), Esther Ortega (The ghost neighborhood. a love story), Diego Cespedes (The big red monster), Pablo de la Chica (Samia's journey), Julián Génisson (This is Hollywood), Alejandro Alonso (the star), Antonio Rojano (The fever), Leire Albinarrate (Bad life in Madrid), Marta Medina del Valle (Lapland), Barbara Magdalena (Macrame), Jelen Morales (Memory of things. Venue Inventory), Cristobal Fernandez (Phantom), Jorge Naranjo (Poet in New York), Sandra Romero (Where the silence passes), Daniel Tornero (Saturn) and Marina Rodríguez Colás (The Gang).
Mariano Barroso, president of the Film Academy, highlighted that the 20 selected projects are about stories that “must be told.” "That is why its authors deserve all our support. It is their stories that make us know who we are," he stressed.
On the other hand, after highlighting “the extraordinary” results of the edition that has just ended, Miguel Angel Redondo, delegate of Economy, Innovation and Employment of the Madrid City Council, described the program as “an unavoidable call for authors.” Finally, the program coordinator, Ines Enciso, has reiterated the importance of this initiative for the Academy “which is generating a community of filmmakers.”
Featured projects
Among the future residents is David Pérez Sañudo, whose debut film, Ane, won three Goya Awards –Best Leading Actress, New Actress and Adapted Screenplay–; Javier Marco, which won the Goya for Best Fiction Short Film for to the face and will present his first feature film at the San Sebastián Festival, Josefina; Jorge Naranjo, worked as a television scriptwriter in Paco's men, odd y Buenafuente; Barbara Magdalena, author of the film poster Ana by day; and the journalist Marta Medina.
They have a special connection with the city of Madrid fifteen of the twenty proposals chosen, of which twelve are feature-length fiction projects, four feature-length documentaries, one feature-length animation and four fiction series. The majority of the selected residents are of Spanish nationality, with the exception of the Chilean Diego Cespedes y Alejandro Alonso, which comes from Cuba. Four of the creators are academics.
In order of score, the proposals of Guillermo García Fernández have been reserved (The Altarpiece of Wonders. Notes for a film about Don Quixote), Héctor Beltrán Gimeno (we will never forget you), Carlos Saiz Espín (Lionel), Christian Rojas Spain (Ñusta[Princess]), Diego Sabanés (Mediators), Bruna Cousí (Temporary) and Manolo Vázquez Ramos (The Gilda sisters).
Duration of residency
Los 20 filmmakers They will begin their artistic residency next October and, until June 2022, they will enjoy the means and aid necessary for the development of their audiovisual projects. The headquarters of the institution in Madrid It will be the space in which this program will be carried out, which will offer a monthly financial contribution to the creators; support for travel expenses for those residents who live outside the Community of Madrid; advice from mentors, physical work space, immersion in the Academy's activities and permanent meeting with the industry.
The projects selected by the commission – made up of Andrea Jaurrieta, Araceli Gozalo Delgado, Gonzalo de Pedro Amatria, Lola Salvador, Manuel Martín Cuenca, Martín Cuesta Gutiérrez and the presidency of the Film Academy – were announced at the meeting organized by the Academia, los Summers of the Village y Madrid Film Office. Representatives of the City Council and the Academy, the residents Lorena Iglesias and Patricia Pérez and the mentor Belén Funes participated in this event, which began with the debate presented by the journalist Javier Zurro, "Welcome Mister Resident.
