The Residencies and Rueda projects of the Film Academy receive 837 applications

A total of 837 projects will be eligible for the new editions of the training programs of the Film Academy: Residences and Rueda.

Residences, an initiative carried out with the support of the Madrid City Council, has received 732 requests for its fifth edition, while, for the second call of Rueda, which is funded by the ICAA through the Next Generation EU funds, have been presented 105 proposals.

After the deadline for submitting applications, the Residence data show the following figures: 832 applicants were registered, of which 732 presented the required documentation. Of these proposals, 429 have been presented by men (58.6%); 282 by women (38.5%) and 21 by non-binary people. Furthermore, 596 of the projects (81.4%) are artistically linked to the city of Madrid, and 43 (5.87%) correspond to academics. Due to the nature of the two entities that promote the program, the bases include priority for projects related to the city of Madrid and advantages of access to the program for academics.

More information: 80.3% of the projects presented are feature films (588) and 19.6% are television series (144). Fiction (666 projects), documentaries (54) and animation (12) are the genres chosen by the applicants (directors and screenwriters), of whom 83% (608) are of Spanish origin, and the rest come from countries such as Argentina (17), Cuba (13), Italy (11), Chile and Colombia (10 each), among others.

The 105 applicants for the second edition of Rueda, aimed at filmmakers who want to develop their projects telematically, are divided as follows: 53.3% are from women (56) and 45.7% (48) from men, in addition to a proposal from a non-binary person. Fiction (88) dominates the proposals, followed by documentaries (14) and animation (3), and 94.2% (99) of the proposals are linked to an SDG (Sustainable Development Goal). Furthermore, 69.5% come from people who live in cities with fewer than 400,000 inhabitants.

Several professionals from the sector will make up the two assessment committees of the proposals presented and will select the finalist projects (20 for Residences and 6 for Rueda) soon.
