Red.es awards a consortium led by Cellnex and Masmovil a 5G pilot in Barcelona
The consortium, made up of Cellnex, Masmovil, Parlem Telecom, Nearby Computing, Aug Solutions, Lenovo, Atos and Nae, has been formed as a joint venture to carry out the project and has the support and collaboration of Barcelona City Council and the Mobile World Capital Barcelona.
Este consorcio, en el que también participan la operadora catalana Parlem Telecom, la empresa especializada en realidad aumentada para la industria, Aumenta Solutions, la ingeniería Atos, la consultora Nae, la tecnológica Lenovo y la start-up Nearby Computing (spin-off del Barcelona Supercomputing Center), has been one of the winners of the second call for aid for the development of 5G pilots launched at the end of 2019 by Red.es, an entity of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation, within the framework of the National 5G Plan. The initiative is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
The project has a global budget of 5.4 million euros (40% of which will be financed by Red.es) and will be carried out in collaboration with Barcelona City Council, Mobile World Capital Barcelona, through the 5G Barcelona initiative, Fira Barcelona, i2cat, Intel and the IESE business school.
7 differential use cases
Through this 5G pilot, the consortium will work to test, develop and implement holographic solutions specially designed for the education sector and distance training; flexible systems for optimizing logistics through autonomous and connected vehicles for industry 4.0; autonomous, connected and sustainable vehicles for the transport of passengers in large venues (especially fairs) to improve mobility; new solutions distance shopping through immersive experiences, especially designed for distance shopping in urban markets; the improvement of control and management of spaces con alta afluencia de personas, como pueden ser las playas en verano; o la aplicación de esta nueva tecnología en las retransmisiones televisivas de manera remota mediante dispositivos móviles.
All of this taking advantage of the capabilities provided by 5G technology, greater bandwidth capacity, greater speed in transmission, especially data, and lower latency in the response of any type of application compared to current mobile technologies.
