Channel 5 vuelve a emitir 'The Gadget Show' gracias al ATEM Mini Pro

“Without the ATEM Mini Pro model, it would have been very difficult to implement a work dynamic as fluid as this,” says the producer of the program. North One Television.

The mixer ATEM Mini Pro of Blackmagic Design has facilitated the broadcast of the last season of The Gadget Show, produced by North One Television (Birmingham), despite social distancing measures and confinement.

First broadcast in 2004, The Gadget Show It is focused on consumer technology and uses a connection with the studio in each episode. In the UK, Channel 5 produces the program, one of the ones that has been on the air for the longest time on the channel, and which incites viewers by offering news and reviews about the most innovative products on the technology market.

The producer of the series, Tim Wagg, explains that "when the government in June allowed television productions to start again, the team had only five days to prepare a recording in the studio. It was a really rushed turn, especially considering that we were all working remotely."

On the other hand, he adds that “normally, we would have a mobile unit and up to 20 people on set, something we had to drastically reduce in order to maintain a safe workspace with social distancing.”

“An essential part of the show is the hosts' reactions when we show them the pre-recorded segments that viewers have just seen,” Tim continues. “So getting these elements integrated into the studio provides a much smoother program.”

“Asimismo, fue de gran utilidad durante los segmentos de novedades, en los que el contenido flota en la pantalla para agregar elementos visuales a la conversación, algo que, de otro modo, hubiera requerido horas de trabajo en posproducción”.

“Sin el lujo de contar con el equipo y la unidad móvil habituales, no teníamos modo alguno de realizar dicha producción de manera limpia, así que necesitábamos una solución alternativa que fuera portátil, económica, fácil de usar y con conexiones HDMI”.

Dinámica fluida

Aquí es cuando aparece en escena el modelo ATEM Mini Pro. “Tenía todos los elementos, gráficos y fragmentos pregrabados cargados en mi MacBook, por lo que con solo conectarlo mediante las conexiones HDMI al mezclador pudimos crear los contenidos que queríamos sin problemas. Además, ha sido de gran utilidad para agregar el segmento semanal Wallop of the Week, que se realiza en la plataforma Zoom”.

“Parece sencillo”, prosigue. “Pero sin el modelo ATEM Mini Pro, hubiera sido muy complicado implementar una dinámica de trabajo tan fluida como esta. El mezclador nos ha permitido continuar produciendo elementos de estudio profesionales que se ajustan a la perfección al ritmo de las conversaciones”.

Wagg agrega que “como para gran parte de la industria, las restricciones debido a la COVID-19 han presentado numerosos desafíos, pero como productora bien equipada hemos conseguido superarlos, gracias en parte a empresas como Blackmagic Design”.

“Los comentarios que nos llegaron una semana después del primer programa fueron que no se percibieron cambios en la producción. Son testimonio del ingenio y la creatividad de nuestro equipo de producción al completo”, concluye.
