Blackmagic Design launch the device DaVinci Resolve Speed Editor, a new keyboard ideal for working with the Assembly module that offers a solution for extremely fast editing, thanks to the integration of a physical support with the program. In traditional editing programs, you need to constantly organize thousands of clips and drag them onto the timeline to make changes. This does not provide the speed necessary to work on projects such as advertisements, newsletters, promotions and tutorials. However, linear editing systems offered the advantage of being able to simply fast forward or rewind the tape to view the shots. In this sense, now the Assembly module has a function called “tape mode", which is the modern equivalent of a videotape. Simply press the respective key and rotate the search knob to view all images. Additionally, the clip being viewed is highlighted in the tray, allowing you to advance to the next shot more quickly.

Marking edit points is the most frequently used function when editing. In this sense, the keys used for this purpose are large and can be easily located. This is ideal as it allows you to use your right hand for playback controls and your left hand to mark edit points with the help of the seek rotary knob. Then, simply extend your fingers to press the keys and edit the material. It should be noted that the in and out points can also be used in tape mode. Likewise, pressing the Esc key displays the contents of the entire tray.

Since editing with a keyboard is different from editing with a mouse, these functions have been optimized for greater speed. In this sense, the smart indicator Automatically determines where to make changes on the timeline, avoiding the need to mark edit points. The corresponding keys are located above the ones used for these points, and can be easily located. In addition, when editing in the Assembly module, the possibility is provided to remain in tape mode, in order to facilitate the search for content. This workflow is much faster, as it allows you to continue adding clips to the timeline.

The rotary knob offers a crop mode incredibly fast and accurate, as well as its large size makes it easy to use. On the other hand, it is possible to hold down the trimming keys when turning it, using the left hand to choose the trimming mode and the right hand to make adjustments. This allows you to work very quickly, and the smart indicator on the timeline shows who is making the changes. Simply scroll along it and trim when necessary. It is a totally innovative way of editing.

Add transitions using an editing program is slow, since you have to select them and drag them to the timeline. However, when using the keyboard, simply pressing a key can turn them on or off. This is very fast, since when you scroll through the timeline, the smart indicator will show the affected editing point, so that users can move it. On the other hand, the CUT key allows you to easily eliminate the effect. Pressing DIS adds a fade with a predetermined duration, while pressing SMTH CUT adds a smooth cut to eliminate jumps in the image.

The DaVinci Resolve Speed ​​Editor model features a compact and portable design, so it only includes the essential keys for editing. Some of the multifunction keys are not even available on the larger model, while others allow you to access additional features by holding them down or double-pressing them. This provides the ability to reduce the number of keys to provide the same tools in a portable design. Likewise, their distribution facilitates their use and offers the opportunity to work more quickly.

Multifunction keys

The key Esc /Undo It is located in the upper left corner in order to be able to locate it easily, since it is the most used to cancel or undo changes. For example, in the sync tray, when selecting a certain camera, it is possible to view all angles again by pressing this key. Pressing it twice allows you to undo any modifications.

The new tray synchronization allows you to search for different angles that match the selected shot on the timeline. This provides the ability to find layout changes using a familiar interface. You can then use the keys corresponding to each camera to choose a different angle, or the SRC O/WR key to edit the image in the timeline.

The key Audio Level Allows you to quickly change the volume of a clip by holding down and turning the seek knob. This provides the opportunity to work faster. By pressing it twice, it is possible to add a marker, and if you then hold it down, change its color.

The key Full View It is red, which allows you to quickly find it and press it to see a full-screen image. This is ideal when making presentations for clients. Pressing it twice starts playback before the most recent change.

The key Trans It performs a similar function to the Cut and Smth Cut keys. However, it allows you to add any of the transitions available in DaVinci Resolve. By holding it down, a panel will appear with the different options to select one of them.

The key Split/Move allows you to divide the clip according to the position of the head. If it is over a split clip, pressing it will delete the cut. When held down, the seek knob can be used to move the clip in the timeline.

By pressing the key Snap, it is possible to activate the “Attract” tool. This works a little differently on the keyboard, momentarily pausing at edit points during playback. When pressed and held, this key provides the ability to adjust the viewfinder size.

The key Ripl Del Allows you to delete the clip at the head position without leaving an empty space on the timeline. It is ideal for deleting parts of a take that you do not want to include in the final version. It also reduces the duration of the timeline.

The camera number keys allow you to select a unit when using the Mount module's sync tray. By pressing one of them and turning the seek knob simultaneously, images from the chosen camera are added to the timeline instantly as playback progresses. There is also the opportunity to activate this function using the key Live O/WR. In this case, the keys light up, and it is possible to select the cameras just like on a mixer. The images captured by each one will be seen simultaneously, which makes it easier to change shots. For their part, the keys Video Only y Audio Only They provide greater control when editing.

The DaVinci Resolve Speed ​​Editor model includes Bluetooth technology which allows it to be used wirelessly, even together with a common keyboard.
