The BANFF Mountain Film Festival World Tour will start on February 19 in Huesca
The best mountain, adventure and extreme sports cinema will take place in Alto Aragón (Huesca, Jaca, Barbastro, Benasque and Boltaña) between February 19 and April 10.
He Tour Mundial del BANFF Mountain Film Festival confirms its new edition in Spain starting February 19. The best movies of mountain, adventure and extreme sports will return to the big screen, first in the five headquarters of Huesca. The event, an international sociocultural reference, will start in the Alto Aragonese capital and then hand over the baton to Barbastro, Jaca, Benasque y bolt. The spectacular nature of the audiovisual productions is intertwined with an important parallel programming that is being worked on so that it can be developed safely and under strict compliance with health regulations and social distancing.
After five years of success and with strong public support, the BANFF will begin its national journey on February 19 and 20 in the Alto Aragonese capital. In the month of March, Jaca (Friday the 5th and Saturday the 6th), Barbastro (Thursday the 11th and Friday the 12th) and Benasque (Friday the 19th and Saturday the 20th) will be the stars of this world tour. The finishing touch to this first extension will be Boltaña with his sessions on April 9 and 10. The Huesca network: The Magic of Congresses will once again be the logistical axis; All the palaces and conference centers in the province will host the film sessions, this being the only event that shows its potential and possibilities one hundred percent.
Jesús Bosque, programmer of the event, comments that "the announcement of the dates of the BANFF World Tour is an important step for its organizers. Last year we were able to successfully carry out almost 100% of the provincial circuit and since then we have continued working for and for the spectators. The confirmation of a new edition, always strictly following all health precautions and restrictions, is already a success."
Last year, the climber Edurne Pasaban was present thanks to the support of the Aragonese Women's Institute (IAM) and it was possible to exceed 90% of the capacity in all the venues, until the state of alarm forced the cancellation of the programming in the last of the locations: Benasque; as well as various appointments in other parts of Spain.
Since its arrival in Spain in 2016, the event has increased its social and sporting significance; a fact that has aroused the interest of cities such as Vigo, Logroño, León and Madrid where the official session has also been presented. These locations have already hosted this Canadian proposal that has the Huesca International Film Festival Foundation as the main ambassador in Spain. For 2021, we are working on a program that responds at the same time to the situation generated by Covid-19 and to the cultural demand of the population, a series of proposals that complement the official session and that give the event this multidisciplinary character that attracts the interest of people of all ages.
The Banff Mountain Film Festival and Book Festival is a festival that began more than 40 years ago (1976) in Banff, in the Canadian province of Alberta. The region is transformed every year at the beginning of November thanks to this contest; The best cinematographic works focused on mountains, books and the most notable speakers focus attention during the nine days that the event lasts. This past 2020, the edition had to adapt to an online model, maintaining its original dates and the quality of its work.
Since 1986, one of the main characteristics of this festival is that, once finished, it travels around the world in the so-called Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour. Currently, some 1,100 screenings are held in nearly 550 locations around the world, with an audience of more than 550,000 viewers in more than 45 different countries.
The BANFF Mountain Film Festival Spain World Tour is organized by the Huesca International Film Festival Foundation and Peña Guara with the support of the Huesca City Council, TuHuesca and the Canadian Embassy in Spain.
