Malaga will host the gala of the 1st Edition of the Ondas Globales Podcast Awards

Organized by PRISA Audio y SER Chain, in collaboration with Spotify, the Teatro del Soho CaixaBank in Malaga will host the first edition of the Ondas Globales Podcast Awards on May 24, which aim to give visibility to the podcast industry and recognize the work of its professionals, their creativity and innovation.

The official presentation of the awards took place this Tuesday, February 15, at a press conference. The first to intervene was the general director of PRISA Audio, María Jesús Espinosa de los Monteros, who highlighted that "the marked vocation for internationalization, innovation and culture that have always characterized Malaga and that have made it a benchmark, make the city the perfect setting for the celebration of these awards ceremony, awards with a global nature that want to give visibility to the world of podcasts in Spanish, an industry in full bloom."

Next, the delegate of the Government of the Junta de Andalucía in Malaga took the floor, Patricia Navarro, quien subrayó que “si alguien apuesta por la innovación y la modernidad, como ahora hace PRISA, no hay mejor lugar para hacerlo que en Málaga”. Navarro explicó que “cuando nos propusieron colaborar en este proyecto, no tuvimos dudas. Somos una ciudad pionera en innovación tecnológica y emprendimiento, y al igual que le pasa a la audiencia del podcast, cada día vamos a más, albergando nuevos proyectos y nuevas empresas que están consolidando un futuro esperanzador para nuestra tierra”.

Navarro highlighted that the Andalusian Government is also aware that to be more competitive they have to be more digital, "and that is why we have a transformative plan, innovative companies, talent and training capacity so that Málaga becomes a focus and European technological capital, and, if you press me, also a global one," he concluded.

The president of the Malaga Provincial Council, Francisco Salado, stated during his speech that the celebration of these awards is “great news for the city and the province.” In addition, he pointed out that podcasts have evolved a lot in recent years and have become a very useful tool, so it is important to recognize the importance that this content format has achieved today. “The Provincial Council has always been and will be in the great projects of Malaga, and this is a very important one,” he assured.

The mayor of Malaga, Francisco de la Torre, closed the presentation event by highlighting that “the 1st Ondas Globales Podcast Awards contribute to increasing the cultural and technological notoriety of Malaga at a national and international level, since they have a global reach and on the planet there are 500 million people who speak Spanish as a native language.” De la Torre stressed that “the podcast is a medium that has been strongly imposed: its consumption has grown exponentially in Spain, which is already a reference in the international market because one in three Spaniards listen to streaming content.”

He Winners will be announced on February 23 de la primera edición de los Premios Ondas Globales del Podcast por parte de un jurado formado por expertos en el mundo del audio, la comunicación y la creatividad publicitaria que concederá un total de 15 galardones, divididos en tres secciones, para proyectos nacionales e internacionales en español y con dos más específicos para otros idiomas.

La Gala de los Ondas Globales del Podcast, a los que se presentan 888 candidaturas, será, además, un evento esencial dentro las actividades y actos que va a desarrollar la cadena SER en Málaga para conmemorar -en este 2022- el 40 Aniversario de los inicios de las emisiones en esta provincia.

The category General cuenta con 399 candidaturas. Se premiarán el mejor podcast de ficción; el mejor podcast narrativo de no-ficción; el mejor podcast conversacional; el mejor branded-podcast; el mejor podcast experimental; el mejor podcast internacional de habla no-española; y el mejor podcast en lengua cooficial del Estado.

The category Specific otorgará sus galardones a la mejor realización y diseño sonoro; el mejor guion; la mejor producción; el mejor episodio; el mejor actor o actriz de ficción sonora; y el mejor anfitrión o anfitriona entre las 415 inscripciones admitidas, convirtiéndose así en la categoría con más candidaturas recibidas en estos premios.

Lastly, the premios Especiales They will recognize among 52 candidates the best revelation podcast and, among another 22 candidates, the trajectory in the industry and consolidation of the podcast in Spain and Latin America.
