Manuela Ocón, Goya 2023 for best production direction for 'Modelo 77'
Key name for the cinema of Alberto Rodríguez and nominated on four previous occasions for her work in films with the Sevillian filmmaker, Manuela Ocón Aburto debuts her place in the honors of the Goya 2023 thanks to his work in 'Modelo 77'.
In a category dominated by women, responsible for brilliant productions such as Alcarrás, As Bestas, Piglet o Five Little Wolves, Ocon has risen with the challenging Model 77 (Atypical Films, Movistar Plus+), shot straddling between Sevilla y Barcelona, with an important confluence of human and technical resources, and with an added difficulty when transferring to spectator to Barcelona in the 70s.
Ocón, who achieves with Model 77 are first Goya, recognizes that each of his four previous nominations have been very important in his career, recognizing that there is always a certain “randomness” in achieving the award, since it “depends on many other things.”
For the production director, Rodríguez's film has meant important challenges in the management of “so many human and technical resources.” It has also been key temporary setting of the film (“Making a period film that is credible is not easy”), although the history commitment has been the key that has driven all his production design: “Our commitment to history has been very important, which is real and had to be seen with the eyes of that time.”
