The journey to the 70s of 'The Laws of the Border', recognized with the Goya for Best Artistic Direction
Balter Gallart has received the affection and recognition of the Academy in the form of a Goya for Best Artistic Direction for his work in the adaptation of The laws of the border, novel by Javier Cercas.
The laws of the border, film by Daniel Monzon produced by Atresmedia Cinema, Ikiru Films y The Terrace Films, takes the viewer to the late 70s in Girona, something that transcends each visual element put on screen. Its immersive and dense journey through time has also been highlighted from the locker room, since Escobar vignette and his team have achieved the Goya for Best Costume Design; and characterization, since the Goya for Best Makeup and Hairstyling It has gone to Sarai Rodríguez, Benjamín Pérez and Nacho Díaz.
In love with history, gallant He has celebrated the great opportunity to transport an era he lived through. Furthermore, he wanted to recognize the value of post-production, which has played a fundamental role in achieving what, for various reasons, “could not be done on set.” The artistic director has considered that the greatest difficulty when working in The laws of the border has been to reproduce an era “that is not so far away”, since the elements of 78 are still alive in the 90s and the new millennium.
Another key element has been the difficulty of finding exteriors in Girona that would maintain the architecture and spaces of the year 78. To do this, Gallart and the production team toured the rest of the capitals of Catalonia until they found the ideal locations. “It has been hard work, but it has become one of the best experiences of my 30 years of working life,” he remarked.
At the moment, gallant works in the artistic direction of Awareness, a science fiction feature film directed by Daniel Benmayor for Prime Video.
