Buendía Estudios, after 'The Time Between Seams', develops the series 'Sira'
The Spanish factory Buendía Studios is working on the creation of an ambitious international franchise based on the literary universe of María Dueñas, continuing with the production of 'Sira', after the success of 'El tiempo entre corazónas'.
The series is an original development by the production company, with a clear international vocation and the ambition of becoming a global event following in the footsteps of its predecessor.
With executive production by Sonia Martinez (The time between seams, Money Heist, Poison, The Nights of Tefía, Temperance), the fiction is currently in the writing phase by the screenwriter Tatiana Rodríguez (The Cook of Castamar, Camilo Superstar, The Escape) in close collaboration with Maria Duenas, who also serves as creative executive producer.
In her own words, "this new audiovisual adventure by Sira gives me immense joy. Since the publication of the novel in April 2021, readers have not stopped asking me when the leap will come to the screen. We can finally tell them that we are working on it, with the same enthusiasm that we once poured into The Time Between Seams. I am convinced that we will achieve another wonderful series, which will once again seduce audiences from half the world."
Sonia Martínez, editorial director of Buendía Estudios, points out that "María's novels, due to their characters, their studied historical context, the painstaking detail with which they describe environments and situations, and their addictive plots, constitute an impressive starting point with all the ingredients to create an "event series". A television event capable of having an impact, crossing borders and reaching broad audiences. We already experienced it with El tiempo entre seams and La temperanza, and now we embark again with her on this exciting project.”
The project has the participation of Atresmedia TV for the Spanish market.
From publishing success to audiovisual phenomenon
María Dueñas's first novel quickly rose to the status of international bestseller, becoming one of the best-selling works of Spanish literature.
The arrival of the series in 2013 was the most notable fiction premiere of the year, achieving great social and cultural significance. It was seen in Spain by more than five million viewers per episode and its international distribution reached 70 countries. The audiovisual phenomenon contributed to the already consolidated success of the novel, translated into 35 languages.
As to Sira It was published in 2021 amid great media expectation. The magnificent acceptance by readers caused its sales to exceed 150 thousand copies in its first two weeks. It currently reaches 800,000 copies sold in Spain and Latin America. International translations are numerous, including French, Italian, Dutch and Arabic. In September it will make the leap to the Anglo-Saxon market with the English edition.
