Leticia Dolera will film the series 'Pubertat' for Max

The actress, screenwriter and director Leticia Dolera has created 'Pubertat', a six-episode series that she will direct and perform and will premiere in 2025 in Max with production of Distinto Films, Film Cutting and Making, Uri Films y 3Cat.

In the series, the harmony of a community is disrupted by a report of sexual assault on social networks that points to three teenagers as the culprits.

Los adultos a cargo de los señalados, como agresores y como víctima, tendrán que lidiar con la tensión de la situación y enfrentarse a su propia relación con la sexualidad. En el proceso descubrirán que quizá no solo las tradiciones pasan de generación en generación, sino también los tabúes y los traumas.

Puberty cuestiona si un niño de 13 años puede ser un agresor sexual y, si lo fuera, de quién sería la responsabilidad: del niño, de la familia o de la sociedad. A su vez, la historia explora las relaciones paterno-filiales y como éstas, queramos o no, también nos constituyen.

For Dolera, "during puberty, sexuality and the changes in our body go through us and make us vulnerable. In a social context where, on the one hand, everything is pornified and objectified and, on the other, sex and intimacy remain taboo, how do adolescents approach something as intimate and radical as sexuality? How do we, adults, do it? Are we prepared to accompany them? That is why I have written Pubertat, to share all these concerns and try to shed some light on this topic."

And he adds that "to tell this story I have chosen the visual and metaphorical force of the castle tradition. PUBERTAT speaks of the legacy between generations, between fathers and mothers and their sons and daughters, both on a cultural, emotional or psychological level; also of how tradition and progress coexist today with a certain tension. That is why it seemed to me that the context of popular culture was a fertile and ideal terrain for the series. In addition to the team effort and the symbolic and cathartic nature of a castell, I was attracted for history, the naturalization of contact with the body when making a castell. The body seen as something to integrate and not something to fear, hide or be ashamed of. I think that, in short, a castellera colla is like a small society, on a human and political level, it is a mirror in which to look at ourselves.

Puberty is written by Dolera herself, its creator, who has had Almudena Monzú as co-writer of three of the six episodes of the series. In the final stretch of the development process they have collaborated Manuel Burque y David Gallart.

The series will be filmed in several towns in Catalonia throughout 2024 and is supported by ICEC, the Creative Europe MEDIA program and Eurimages. Produced by Miriam Porté and Oriol Maymó.
