Six projects move to the final phase of Next Lab Generation 2025
Next Lab Generation 2025 It will culminate its workshop with the presentation on February 27 and 28 in Madrid of its six finalists: four short films, a video game and a feature film.
The fifth edition of Next Lab Generation will bring together in just over a week in Madrid professionals focused on innovation and new technologies from the world of animation and video games. The event represents the culmination of his workshop, in which 14 animation projects, video games and immersive experiences They have delved into the use of tools belonging to the virtual environment to optimize creative and productive processes.
After only seven weeks since the start of the workshop, the announcement of the finalists concludes the first phase, in which the projects selected in January have worked with virtual reality tools and real-time rendering engines, being accompanied and advised by various experts in the sector in the process. The fourteen participating projects have faced different challenges during the training, learning to use the technological tools on which the training is based (Quill, virtual reality software for artistic creation, and Blender for 3D modeling), and producing a teaser of your project in record time. During the second phase, the six finalists will focus on preparing the final stretch of the call, which will culminate with the pitch in front of the jury and the public attending the event, in which they will share in an unprecedented way the teaser resulting from the workshop.
In this fifth edition, four short films, a video game and a feature film are the projects selected as finalists. With Argentine-Spanish nationality, the short film Ashes by Fran de Olano is the only co-production among those selected. In this same format we also find national production projects We’ve run out of milk!, by Leyre E. Iturriza and Rollin’ Punkies, with the participation of Alberto Andrés Sánchez. The list of short films is completed by the Argentine project Where is my yellow pencil?, with the participation of Irene Franco. We also found among the finalists the Brazilian video game project Echoes of Drowning, with Baboo Matsuzaki and Gabriela Diniz, and, finally, the Spanish feature film project Our Father who art in heaven of Aroa Talens Ferrís.
The event that will frame the pitch of the finalists will be held in the coming days February 27 and 28 in Madrid at the José Ortega y Gasset – Gregorio Marañón Foundation (FOM), on Fortuny Street. The Friday day will host the pitch of the finalist projects, a milestone that will mark the end of the workshop. In this presentation, participants will show the animated piece made during the eight weeks of training, and present their conclusions about the process. It will be the same Friday afternoon when the jury will make its deliberation public, announcing the winners of Next Lab Generation 2025, who will receive professional accreditation for Annecy MIFA 2025 and the opportunity to make a presentation at the Next Lab Generation conference.
