Edward Lachman wins the best cinematography of the year for 'María'
The American Society of Cinematographers (ASC) recognizes the work of cinematographer Edward Lachman in 'María', a feature film directed by Pablo Larraín that reviews the life of the opera singer María Callas.
This is the first victory of Lachman in a film or television category of the ASC. He had previously been nominated for Far from heaven (2003), Mildred Pierce (2011), Carol (2016) y The Count (2024). Lachman had already received from the ASC itself the Lifetime Achievement Award from the ASC in 2017.
Lachman has won the category of best feature film con María to other notable works such as that of Jarin Blaschke for Nosferatu, Alice Brooks by Wicked, Lol Crawley por The Brutalist, Stéphane Fontaine por Conclave and Greig Fraser for Dune: Part Two. Regarding the rest of the evening's awards, Jomo Fray has achieved the Spotlight Award for his work in Nickel Boys; Michael Dweck y Gregory Kershaw have shared the award for Gaucho Gaucho in the category of Best Documentary; Robert Elswit has seen how his work has been recognized in the Lucio episode of Ripley (Netflix) and Best miniseries; Sam Mccurdy has won the ASC award for the Crimson Sky chapter of Shōgun in the section of the hour-long television series, y Richard Rutkowski has done the same for the Starry-Eyed chapter of Sugar in the series of half hour long. Additionally, Pepe Ávila del Pino has won the ASC in the category of Best video clip for his work in 313 by the artists Residente, Sílvia Pérez Cruz and Penélope Cruz.
Regarding the honorary awards of the ceremony, Kathleen Kennedy received the ASC Board of Governors Award; Andrzej Bartkowiak received the ASC Lifetime Achievement Award; Award for Lifetime Achievement in Television was awarded to Michael Goi; John Simmons received the Presidents Award; Joan Churchill, el Lifetime Documentary Award, y Pete Romano, el Curtis Clark Technology Award.
