Akamai and Bitmovin develop AMP2

The new Adaptive Media Player (AMP2) from Akamai, built with technology Bitmovin and with an official launch scheduled for October 1, it aims to set a new standard in video playback performance, analytics and device coverage.

Released in IBC 2025, AMP2 is the fruit of six years close collaboration between Bitmovin and Akamai. The solution combines the technologies of Bitmovin in matters of players, analysis and Stream Lab with the cloud computing infrastructure y content delivery from Akamai to offer a media player with seamless migration support for current Adaptive Media Player customers.

When combined with the Akamai distributed cloud, AMP2 supports Common Media Client Data (CMCD), which allows advanced performance optimizations, such as preloading, and enables record mapping between the player and the CDN. This improves problem solving and helps identify performance bottlenecks faster. AMP2 data is collected through Akamai Cloud and are shown through Analytics de Bitmovin for powerful and useful information.

Other key features of AMP2 are its native compatibility with a wide variety of smart TVs, video game consoles and set-top boxes; real time information pre-integrated with Bitmovin Analytics and new features like Multiview streaming, AI playback, or server-guided ad insertion . Furthermore, thanks to his “managed life cycle”, Bitmovin takes care of all version updates, OS updates and device support.

The launch of AMP2 is part of a strategic initiative between Bitmovin y Akamai which will be expanded with more solutions in Akamai Cloud.
