Apex: the new generation of adaptive limiters from CEDAR Audio
CEDAR Audio, a pioneer in noise reduction and audio restoration processes, has unveiled the new flagship model in its range of adaptive and spectral limiter solutions: Apex.
CEDAR Audio's latest development seeks to offer audio professionals precise control over the Transparency and depth of the soundstage. To achieve this, the tool presents a high-quality processing resolution at low frequencies, which allows a more precise limitation, as well as the function Link, a variable designed to improve the warmth of the audio.
Unlike conventional limiters, which control the volume of signals by suppressing peak amplitudes when they would exceed user-defined thresholds, Apex uses a adaptive algorithm only one that calculates equalization profiles that vary continuously for each audio channel, limiting the amplitude of the output while maintaining the integrity of the input signal. In this way, engineers can increase apparent volume in a transparent manner without increasing the maximum signal level.
Engineers can also use the spectral and temporal controls from Apex to get a wide range of “colors” – from richer, punchier sounds without unwanted distortion at higher settings, to brighter or softer sounds. Additionally, the solution can limit loud vocals with a prominent high frequency content without affecting the bass of the track.
Paul Alexander, director of sales at CEDAR Audio, is confident that the brand's new tool will play a “valuable role” in helping engineers create master tracks “faster and more efficient.”
