Fujifilm debuts its second Fujinon cinematic motorized zoom lens for the GFX system
The new Fujinon GF19-35mmT3.5 PZ OIS WR features its native G mount and offers the widest angle of view available in the GF format, giving filmmakers of all levels of production expanded cinematic versatility and great optical performance, all in a compact and lightweight large format cinematic zoom.
The objective offers a 19-35mm focal length (equivalent to 15-28mm in 35mm format). It combines excellent handling for film production with high manufacturing quality. Furthermore, the ease of handling and design of the Premista series, while adopting an optimized configuration for motorized zoom and a dc motor, which allows you to achieve a reduced weight of 2.1 kg. When used with Fujifilm GFX Eterna 55, it enables efficient, high-quality film production workflows.
In recent years, film production demands both workflow efficiency and high image quality. Together with him GF32-90 mm T3.5 PZ OIS WR, this lens allows you to cover from the ultra wide angle to the standard range, while its identical dimensions allow you to change lenses efficiently using common accessories.
The GF19-35mmT3.5 PZ OIS WR achieves a high resolution comparable to that of a fixed lens, despite being a zoom lens, thanks to the fact that it minimizes optical aberrations to the maximum. When combined with the GFX series, it delivers high-quality videos that take full advantage of the system's superior tonal gradation and exceptional detail reproduction.
Additionally, the lens maintains a bright maximum aperture of T3.5 throughout the zoom range, allowing precise control of exposure in line with the creator's intent.
Furthermore, it offers consistent color reproduction and tonal characteristics with the GF32-90mm T3.5 PZ OIS WR, allowing for seamless integration when both lenses are used in the same production, thus improving efficiency in post-production workflows.
When used in conjunction with the GFX Eterna 55 and the GF32-90 mm T3.5 PZ OIS WR, the GF19-35 mm T3.5 PZ OIS WR allows for an optimized shooting style which reduces both equipment requirements and the workload of the technical team to a minimum. This combination not only improves production efficiency, but also greatly expands creative flexibility, opening up new possibilities in filmmaking.
Design
The lens has a sophisticated optical construction of 23 elements in 15 groups, including four ED elements and three aspherical elements. By arranging each element optimally to maximize their respective characteristics, optical aberrations are effectively suppressed. This design allows the lens to maintain a constant T3.5 aperture throughout the zoom range, while delivering high resolution, all in a compact form factor.
It is equipped with independent control rings for focus, zoom and iris, allowing manual operation of each function. All rings adopt the pitch of 0.8M standard gear used in Fujinon cinema lenses, ensuring compatibility with industry-standard accessories such as follow focus systems and lens motors.
The focus ring has a 200 degree wide rotation angle, allowing precise focusing with smooth torque even in shallow depth of field situations. It allows you to control focus, zoom and aperture both through the camera body and via the multi-function dial on the grip supplied with the GFX Eterna 55. In addition, it supports constant speed focus and zoom adjustments on the GFX Eterna 55, facilitating efficient one-person operation.
The objective incorporates the Nano GI coating technology to suppress flare and ghosting caused by light entering the lens at oblique angles, while reducing reflection loss and increasing light transmission to deliver sharp, high-quality image reproduction. Leveraging proprietary optical design technologies and optimized internal lens configuration, the lens suppresses “focus break” to ensure a stable frame.
It has a 13-blade diaphragm which achieves an almost circular iris, which maintains a rounded bokeh even when the diaphragm is slightly closed from its fully open position. This allows for beautiful out-of-focus reflections, even in low-light scenes and point light sources.
Finally, it should be noted that the new Fujinon GF19-35mmT3.5 PZ OIS WR improves stabilization performance by increasing the accuracy of motion detection and optimizing the stabilization mechanism, enabling dynamic images that take full advantage of the distinctive perspective of a wide-angle lens in handheld shots, even when using a gimbal.
