2012: the year of OTT VoD
With services like Netflix, iTunes or now Amazon with the new Kindle Fire (which gives access to 100,000 VOD titles), we could predict that 2012 will finally be the year of on-demand and over-the-top (OTT VoD) services.
That online video generates more Internet traffic than any other content is no secret. In fact, according to some studies, in 2013 video on demand on the Internet will account for 90% of web traffic. However, few could anticipate that tablets like iPad, Motorola Xoom or Sony's new device will position themselves as a media portal for television and video, a phenomenon whose scope is yet to be discovered.
According to a study carried out in the United Kingdom, iPad users are heavy consumers of television. 87% admit to consuming video on YouTube, 74% watch catch-up TV, 52% access iTunes and 38% consume live television.
