Taiwan Broadcasting System offers a package with one HD MPEG-4 channel and three SD MPEG-2 channels at less than 15 Mbps.

Taiwan Broadcasting System (TBS), the largest free-to-air DTT network in the region, has selected the encoders ATEM Kyrion for the development of high definition. ATEME's experience in DVB-T and the compression efficiency of ATEME's MPEG-4 Kyrion encoders weighed in TBS's final decision.

Chen Chin-chang, Director of Engineering at TBS, highlighted that "ATEME proposed a very attractive solution for our project. This is a complex system, for which we need absolute reliability, at an affordable cost.

For his part, Chao-I Lee, who oversaw the deployment of the system at the broadcast center in Taipei on behalf of the TBS Engineering Department, added that "we now have a package with one HD MPEG-4 channel and three SD MPEG-2 channels at less than 15 Mbps, and yet the video quality is excellent. We were also very impressed with the prompt support from ATEME whenever we needed their help during the launch."

ATEME's solution for terrestrial broadcasting with the Kyrion series supports mobile broadcast, SD and HD, MPEG-2 and MPEG-4, with constant bit rate and statistical multiplexing, DVB-T/T2 and ISDB-T.

In Taiwan, in addition to TBS, Formosa TV (FTV) also opted for ATEME for its HD migration this year.
