NEC obtains DCI certification for its NC1100L and NC1040L laser projectors
The Digital Cinema Initiatives certification ensures the quality, interoperability, security and compatibility required in the digital cinema industry.
The NC1100L and NC1040L laser projectors NEC Display Solutions have obtained the Digital Cinema Initiatives (DCI) certification. This certification demonstrates NEC's commitment to innovation while continuing to maintain standards that ensure the quality, interoperability, security and compatibility required in the digital cinema industry. NEC Display Solutions is the first company on the market with two laser projectors compatible with DCI requirements.
Gerd Kaiser, Product Line Manager for Large Venue Projectors at NEC Display Solutions Europe, highlighted that "Digital Cinema Initiative (DCI) sets the standards for digital cinema projectors. Laser projectors offer high reliability, low running costs and long life, as well as a wide color gamut and high resolution. This combination provides the quality and performance that viewers expect from today's digital cinema."
The NC1100L is the first compact digital cinema projector to use a blue laser light source and, thanks to its high quality, is the perfect 2K digital cinema projection solution for both screens up to 11 meters and small projection rooms. On the other hand, the NC1040L offers 4K resolution and the widest color gamut in the world, providing the best image quality to the most demanding moviegoers. It is designed for screens up to 10 meters.
Thanks to their integrated light source, both projectors have up to 20,000 hours of useful life and only require occasional cleaning of the filter, advantages that significantly reduce maintenance costs. These projectors are also the only ones in the world to comply with Laser Class 3R in IEC60825-1 Edition2, the international standard for the digital cinema market.
The ICD compliance test was carried out by the Research Institute for Digital Media and Content (DMC) at Keio University in Japan. This center is one of the three entities that have the Digital Cinema Initiatives license to carry out the DCI compliance test (DCI CTP) worldwide.
Many cinemas already rely on NEC technology to offer solutions that cover both digital signage and projection needs for cinema screens. Some notable cinemas that already use NEC DS solutions are the Ábaco cinemas in Spain and the Odeon UCI Group Cinemas, the largest cinema operator in Europe.
All of these new 4K projector solutions can be seen during the Cine Europe 2014 event that will take place in Barcelona from June 16 to 19. NEC Display Solutions will be present in Suite D of the AC Hotel Barcelona Forum.
