Nobody wants the night

Nobody wants the night (Nobody wants the night), by Isabel Coixet, will open the Official Competition Section of the 65th edition of the Berlinale (Berlin International Film Festival) on February 5. For the first time, a Spanish director will open the prestigious competition.

The film stars the Oscar winner for Best Actress for The English patient Juliette Binoche (Clouds of Sils Maria, Hidden), the Oscar nominee for Best Supporting Actress for Babel, Rinko Kikuchi (The Bloom Brothers, Map of the Sounds of Tokyo) y Gabriel Byrne (Capital, Usual Suspects).

Nobody wants the night está producida por Ariane&Garoé (Andrés Santana), Mediapro (Jaume Roures), Neo Art Producciones (Antonia Nava) y Nadie quiere la noche A.I.E. en coproducción con Noodles Production (Jerome Vidal – Francia) y One More Movie (Ariel Illief – Bulgaria).

Post-production was carried out in Barcelona and international sales are handled by Elle Driver.

After Elegy y My life without me, this will be the third time that Coixet competes in the official section of the festival, although the director has also participated in the Berlinale as a jury and with the films Yesterday never ends, Listening to Judge Garzón, Things I never told you and as a member of the collective of directors of the documentary invisible.

With original script by Miguel Barros (Blackthorn), Nobody wants the night is the story of a woman, Josephine Peary (Juliette Binoche), who wants to reunite with her husband, explorer Robert Peary, and share with him the moment of glory of discovering the North Pole. The film chronicles this woman's reckless and epic journey through the most inhospitable of places in the world, her adventures and her encounter with an Inuit woman, Allaka (Rinko Kikuchi), who will change her rigid ideas about the world and her life forever. It is a story of adventure, discovery, pain, survival and, above all, a wonderful love story.

The film is inspired by real characters and was filmed in and around Finse (Norway), Sofia (Bulgaria) and Tenerife (Spain).

With the original version in English, it has the participation of TVE, Canal +, TV3, Ono, ICAA, ICEC, the Eurimages Fund, MEDIA Program and the National Film Center of Bulgaria.
