The consumption of illegal content on the Internet decreases
Nearly 250 websites have removed illegal content and 31 have completely ceased their activity, as a result of the action of the Intellectual Property Commission.
The Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports has taken stock of the actions of the Intellectual Property Commission.
Based on the statistics of the operation of the Second Section of the Intellectual Property Commission, since it came into operation in March 2012, until last weekend, July 23, 2015, it has resolved more than 95% of the 444 requests submitted by authors and management entities.
Of the 252 pages that have been affected by the work of the Second Section, 98% (247 websites) have removed the content identified as illicit by the Intellectual Property Commission and 31 of them have completely ceased their activity.
Furthermore, the National Court has recently issued two judicial resolutions authorizing the blocking, in Spanish territory, of 5 websites subject to actions by the Second Section of the Intellectual Property Commission and as resolved by it.
Proof that there has been a decrease in the consumption of illegal content on the Internet is that, according to the ranking offered by Alexa.com, before the Second Section of the Intellectual Property Commission came into operation, among the 250 most visited websites in Spain there were almost 30 dedicated to hosting content with indications of being illegal or providing links to said content. Now there are only 13 in that ranking and they are in lower positions in terms of the number of visits, which contributes to reducing and dispersing that traffic.
It is clear from these data that the activity of pirate websites is losing weight within the total Internet traffic in Spain.
