The Mediapro group closes 2016 as the best year in its history
With a turnover of 1,536 million euros and an EBITDA of 162 million euros, the group created 457 jobs last year.
In 2016, Mediapro presented a total turnover of 1,536 million euros (compared to 1,510 million in 2015), with an EBITDA of 162 million euros (130 million in 2015), closing the year as the best year in its history. The group, with a presence in more than 20 countries, has forecasts for 2017 of more than 1,600 million euros in turnover and 200 million EBITDA.
The group's net debt decreased from 213 million in 2015 to 143 million in 2016. 70% of the turnover comes from international clients. Last year, 457 jobs were created in Mediapro, which is the first European conglomerate in the audiovisual sector that brings together content production, sports rights management, the provision of audiovisual services and advice and consulting in areas related to its main activity. The group is also developing a powerful digital area.
First content producer in Spain
In 2016, the group's content productions have been present at the San Sebastián, Venice, Berlin, Havana, Guadalajara (Mexico) and Toronto Festivals with Politics, Instruction manual (Fernando León), Spain in a Day (Isabel Coixet) and The Mother of Pearl Button (by Patricio Guzmán). The Young Pope (by Paolo Sorrentino), co-production of the Mediapro group, has been released on platforms around the world with an excellent reception and the second season of which is being prepared.
In the Spanish market, the group's content teams have put successful series such as Pulsations (Antenna 3), Nit i Dia (TV3) and Dream a Dream (Antenna 3). Precisely, the Antena 3 series produced by Globomedia has become the first Spanish series premiered on a free-to-air channel in the United Kingdom (Channel 4). The group's content area reinforced its team in 2016 with the incorporation of Ran Tellem (executive producer of Homeland and Emmy winner), Stephen Johnstone and the Burman Office team led by Daniel Burman.
Its division dedicated to museum spaces has reached a collaboration agreement with Pau Gassol through which the San Antonio Spurs player will advise the audiovisual group in the field of museum spaces dedicated to the world of sports. In 2016, this division was responsible, among other projects, for the permanent exhibition on Big Data created and produced for the prestigious Federal Polytechnic School of Lausanne (EPFL).
2016 has also been the year of the birth and consolidation of beIN La Liga, Gol and Canal F1 Latin America. The first as the reference channel for football fans and which has been the first football channel leading in audiences on pay TV, and the second as the best free-to-air channel dedicated to sports and which has closed the year as the channel with the most growth among the new free-to-air channels.
In the Group's audiovisual services area, the production of matches from the leagues of Portugal, France, Turkey, Greece, Gabon, Bolivia, Colombia, Qatar, Gabon, Angola, Abu Dhabi and Mozambique stands out, along with La Liga Santander in Spain. The professionals in the area are also responsible for the design and implementation of the integrated editorial and set of the new 24-hour channel of France Television in Paris, with whom they are already working on other projects. The opening of new offices in Havana, Athens, New York, La Paz and Santa Cruz de la Sierra (Bolivia) has allowed the Group to expand its international activity.
With teams of professionals working in 40 cities, their activity during 2016 has covered five continents, from the world surfing championship in Australia, to the FIFA U-20 Championship in Papua New Guinea, construction of sets in Singapore, Turkey or Egypt, and competitions such as the CAM or the CAF and cycling events of the Union Cycliste Internationale.
Among the challenges set for 2017, the development of the digital area stands out, with special attention to the e-games sector, with the strong boost given to the LVP (audience increase of more than 20% in the first months of the year), content productions for the international market, continuing to maintain the commitment to the most advanced technology with the increase in 4K HDR productions and strengthening the group's presence in strategic areas such as America and Asia.
