The GSIC creates a “think tank” on eSports to respond to the strategic challenges of the sector
Mediapro, Microsoft and Orange lead a working group that will annually publish reports on the most relevant aspects in the field of electronic sports.
The Global Sports Innovation Center powered by Microsoft (GSIC) has created a think tank on eSports with the aim of reflecting and providing answers, through technology and innovation, to the great strategic challenges that arise for a sector of growing importance.
Mediapro, Microsoft and Orange are the companies that, together with the GSIC, have promoted the launch of this working group, which will address key issues such as the creation of specific digital content, the transformation in the consumption of this content, challenges in gaming devices, dynamization of the participation of fans and their communities, or the role of technology companies, distribution channels and sponsors, among others.
The working group will meet periodically, will be open to the participation of other e-Sports experts and will annually publish reports and studies with the most relevant contributions to be taken into account by the sector, arising from debate and joint reflection.
This initiative will serve to consolidate the leadership of the companies promoting it, in an activity that is followed in Spain by more than 23 million accumulated annual viewers, according to data from the Professional Video Game League (LVP). Mediapro, Microsoft and Orange are part of the GSIC as strategic partners and have a firm commitment to innovation and the use of technology as competitive tools.
At the end of 2016, Orange reached an agreement with Mediapro, current owner of the Professional Video Game League (LVP), to sponsor its main competition, the Orange Super League, until 2018, confirming the commitment of both companies to what is now called “21st century sport.”
For its part, through its Xbox platform, Microsoft is a world leader in the video game market and online electronic sports communities.
